Want to drive for Lyft but don’t own a car? The ride-sharing company has come up with a solution. It has inked a deal with the Avis Budget Group to offer car rentals to aspiring drivers who don’t have their own cars. This deal will result in “thousands” of cars being offered to drivers through Lyft’s Express Drive program in North America.

For this to actually work, the rentals have to be priced as such that drivers can make enough money to not only pay off the rental but also pocket some themselves. The press release doesn’t mention any terms or rates, though.

This multi-year deal between Lyft and Avis will make it easier for people to drive with Lyft without the cost of car ownership. “We look forward to working with Lyft to address the growing demand for transportation in key markets, and to further leveraging our assets,” said Avis Budget Group’s Joe Ferraro.

The partnership will allow Lyft drivers to reserve an Avis rental from inside the Lyft app. This will make it faster for them to get the car and start driving around paying passengers. Vehicles offered to Lyft drivers as part of this deal are expected to become available in the next few months. More details about the terms and the rates will likely be provided then.
