android oreoJust a few days ago Google released Android 9.0 Pie where within minutes of the update going live, the Essential Phone received the update as well, easily making it the first non-Pixel device to receive the latest Android update. We’re sure that many are wondering when they will receive their update, but for some, it could be a long time coming.

This is because according to Samsung’s Android Oreo roadmap which was obtained by AndroidPure, it seems that the Android Oreo update will only arrive on mid-range Samsung devices in 2019. No, you are not reading that wrong, we are talking about an update that was released last year that will only find its way onto some Samsung handsets next year, meaning by then the update would have been two years old.

These devices include the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2017, the Galaxy A9 Pro 2016, the Galaxy C7 and C9 Pro, some Galaxy J series from 2017 and 2018, and the Samsung Galaxy On series from 2016, just to name a few. To be fair we imagine that Samsung would much rather focus their efforts on their flagship handsets, so its late release doesn’t really come as a shocker.

That being said, at this rate we’re not sure if these handsets will even see the Android 9.0 Pie update, but we wouldn’t get our hopes up. In the meantime Samsung has yet to confirm when the Galaxy S8, S9, or the Note 8 (and upcoming Note 9) will receive Android Pie, but hopefully they’ll have something to share soon.
