With Windows 10, the one of the most requested feature is back, the Start menu. This time, it is arguably much better with lots of customization options. Now, you can access almost everything you need right from the Start menu. You can even get up-to-date information, such as weather updates, mail, appointments, latest news and social media updates right from there.

Microsoft has also added many ways to customize the visual experience of the Start menu. You can easily manage how the information will be displayed to make it easier for you to only see the information you want.

Today, we will show you how you can customize the Windows 10 Start menu.

Move Apps to Tiles

Moving apps to tiles is really simple. Just click-and-hold an app from the left side of the start menu, and move it to the right side and a new tile will be created. You can move apps from the “All Apps” menu as well.

Arrange Tiles

You can easily re-arrange the tiles on the right side of the Start menu. All you need to do is drag and drop a tile from one area to another (the tiles will auto-adjust to make space). Click-and-hold on the tile you want to move and move the cursor to drag it. Now just leave the tile on the area where you want to see it and it will be placed there.

Arrange by Group

If you want to arrange the tiles by categories, then you can also create group of tiles. For this purpose, click-and-hold the tile of which you want to make a group. Now, move it to the end or top of the start menu and you will see a colored bar. Leave the tile there and a new group will be created with the tile inside it. After that, just rename the tile as you may please.

Remove Tiles

Removing tiles is really simple as well, just right click on the tile you want to remove and from the menu, click on “Unpin from Start”.

Resize Tiles

You can also resize tiles according to your needs: right click on the tile you want to resize and select the size from the “Resize” option. The available sizes are Small, Medium, Wide and Large, but not every tile will be able to offer all the sizes.  This depends on the app support.

The “Small” size is a bit too small and the “Large” is actually quite big, so recommended size would be “Medium”.

Resize the Start menu

You can easily resize the whole Start menu from the top and the right sides. The process is same as you resize a standard window. Grab the Start menu from the top or right ends and move it as you please to increase or decrease the size.

Turn off Live Tiles

You must have seen that news and other such information can be viewed in real-time with images, etc. If they seem a bit distracting, you can easily turn off them to just see the name of the tile. Right-click on the tile and select “Turn live tile off” from the menu to turn off live tiles.

One way to boost your productivity is to place key apps with live tiles in a way that makes you aware of notifications, without the need for opening, or switching apps. Both are not only point of friction, but they sap a little bit of time here and there, all day, every day. Happy customizing!
