GIFs are everywhere these days. While some of us don’t find them particularly funny, we do use them from time to time to roast a friend about his fresh profile pic on Facebook or to express our enthusiasm about The Office coming back to TV.

Since using GIFs has gone mainstream, the process of creating one has become quite easy as well. In this tutorial, we are going to be guiding you through GIF creation out of a YouTube video.

GIFS.com

Here’s a video that shows how it work, and we have step by step instructions below.

Step 1: Start by copy-pasting the desired YouTube video’s link into the URL space of the homepage. Hit Continue.

Step 2: Select the part of the video that you want the GIF to start from.

Step 3: Similarly, pick the ending point of the GIF.

Step 4: Before creating the GIF, the website does offer a few customization options that you can play around with; that includes adding a caption, editing the colors,  cropping the clip and many more.

Step 5: Once you feel that the GIF is ready, hit the ‘Create GIF’ button, located on the top right-hand corner.

Step 6: Finally, you can add a title and tags to your GIF, as well as decide if you want the GIF to be public or private.

Once the GIF is created, the website allows you download it and share. In case you don’t want to download it but might need to use it in the future, make sure you save the GIF’s link someplace.

If you want access to special features – such as removing the watermark – you will have to sign up for GIFS.com premium account, which will set you back $8/month.

Giphy.com

A decent alternative option to GIFS.com is Giphy. Besides creating GIFS, Giphy also functions as a combination of search engine and social network for GIF buffs. Users can see which GIFs are trending, search other users and so on.

Step 1: Click on the create button, located in the top right-hand corner.

Step 2: Paste the YouTube link into the URL bar.

Step 3: Set the starting and the finishing point. Hit ‘Continue to Decorate’.

Step 4: Much like GIFS.com, you can add a Caption, stickers and do some other customizations. When you are ready, hit ‘Continue to Upload’.

Step 5: Add some tags if you wish to and then hit ‘Upload to GIPHY’.

Like we saw on GIFS.com, the user is able to either download the GIF to his device or save its link.

If you encounter any problems while trying out any of the above or have a recommendation to make, feel free to shoot a comment down below. We’re adding a couple of videos that show other tools such as MakeaGif.com and GifYoutube.com
