BlackBerry Pearl 9100 leaked
Story posted on: November 20, 2009
Another day, another leak - this time round it is the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 that is the beneficiary, also known as the stratus/striker. Check out the video above - this latest iteration of the BlackBerry Pearl looks all set to rock our socks off when it is finally released.
Pogoplug 2 announced, looks great
Story posted on: November 20, 2009

Cloud Engine has shown us the next-generation Pogoplug. The multimedia sharing device uses a new beautiful industrial design that allows it to expand significantly from the first model: it is now possible to connect four USB hard drives to increase the storage capacity to several Terabytes. This great for edgy consumers, but also for independent professionals and small businesses.
The software has also been improved too: Pogoplug can now automatically synchronize files from connected computers. Organizing photos and videos has been simplified as well, and the demo that we've seen was very convincing. Video support has not been forgotten, and Pogoplug 2 is smart enough to convert most video formats (except AVCHD for now) into mp4 for streaming and sharing. The front-end web interface is nice and clean. If you really want to go overboard, it is possible to install several Pogoplugs and create your own cloud.
We know that the devices are on their way right now by plane and boat, so Pogoplugs are scheduled to ship in December. The price? $129
Google News Revamped For Mobile
Story posted on: November 20, 2009

Mobile versions of websites have never been all that hot, but we’re fairly sure that many folks were still disappointed that Google News’ simplified version wasn’t all that nice. Fortunately Google isn’t going to sit back and take flak that its sites aren’t good, and it has revamped the site for iPhone, Android and Palm Pre users. One of the nicer features is the “Jump to” link which will bring up a window that allows you to skip to the news section of your choice, saving you a couple of clicks. Check out the Google News site on your (supported) phone to see the new layout.

Motorola Milestone For 1 Euro In Germany
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

It certainly seems that us folks in the US are getting the short end of the stick here. Aside from the Motorola Droid (Milestone) over in Europe having multi-touch capabilities, it seems that the folks over in Germany will be able to pick up the phone for 1 Euro, as opposed to us paying $149.99 for the phone. Maybe the next bit of news will be how the Motorola Milestone in Europe can fly you to the moon or something.
Man Marries Virtual Girlfriend
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

If you thought that getting hitched underwater of hooked up while playing World of Warcraft etc is weird, what till you hear about the Love Plus dating sim. Apparently one guy loves his virtual girlfriend, Nene Anegasaki, so much that he’s going to marry it (her?). The magical date is set for November 22nd, and he’s invited the media to attend, so it looks like there will be some coverage of it. What do you think of this?
Optical Zoom For iPhone From Princeton
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

Optical zoom add on kits for cell phones aren’t particularly new, but Princeton Japan has just introduced its iZoom, which is compatible with the iPhone 3G/3GS. It’ll give you an option for up to 8x optical zoom, which isn’t too bad. The iZoom will come with a case and you’ll even be able to focus manually. One more reason to leave your camera at home?
USB Alien Sticks Its Tongue At You
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

You see an awesome looking Alien figurine, and even better, it has a USB cable attached to it, which can only mean that it’s a USB storage drive, or a USB hub, right? Apparently not. While an Alien figurine is certainly awesome, all this little Alien does is stick its illuminated tongue out at you. It might scare your 5 year old younger brother, but that’ll probably be about it.
Free In-flight Wi-fi on Virgin America by Google
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

Yesterday, I was invited by Virgin America to the opening flight San Francisco-Fort Lauderdale and I tested the free in-flight wi-fi, courtesy of Google during the Holiday season (ends January 15th, sigh). It worked very well: the login time is very fast unlike when I had to go through the payment process on Gogo Inflight Internet website, the user interface was terrible and it often returned error messages. The most impressive technology feature is the power plugs provided for every seat in economy class, Virgin America is a true 21st century airline! I was able to post articles, the Microsoft Office 2010 post was published from the sky...
Check out the photo gallery, I shot some really nice pictures of the inaugural flight event, Virgin America CEO David Cush cut the ribbon in SFO and Sir Richard Branson himself welcomed us at our arrival in Fort Lauderdale.
Google Chrome OS, What's New?
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

Google has provided more details about its upcoming Google Chrome OS. If you missed the boat, Chrome OS is a stripped-down Linux that should boot quickly and launch a browser (Chrome). From there, everything that you do is web-based. In short, it's a fancy way of launching a browser, but there's more...
Distribution and hardware: You and I can't download Chrome and install it, apparently (technically, you can still get the source and compile it - it's open). Users will have to buy a Chrome OS machine. I suppose that Google *has to* do that because their currently don't have a driver SDK, and therefore can't let 3rd party hardware vendors write drivers. This would mean that most devices would share fairly similar specifications. The competition should make them cheap to buy, but not much cheaper than today's Netbooks, which are as cheap as can be. Chrome will run on Intel and ARM processors.

Logic3 iStationGo Travel Speakers
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

Logic3 has unveiled its new line of portable speakers, namely the iStationGo. The speakers are foldable, and together with its rounded edges, should fit into your bag rather well. The iStationGo ships with a protective cloth carry case and 4 AAA batteries. A 3.5mm headphone jack allows the iStationGo to be compatible with almost every MP3 player out there, and you’ll get 15 hours of juice from the batteries. Your color options for pink, blue, silver and black. You can pick up the iStationGo from Logic3 for £19.99.
iPod Touch To Help Out More In Apple Stores
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

Based on previous reports, we know that the iPod Touch will be getting an EasyPay system to help check out items at the Apple Store, But aside from that, it seems that Apple store employees will be provided with at least 3 exclusive, separate applications that will help with a bunch of tasks. One of which will allow employees to swap iPhones or iPods on the store floor, something which could only be done at the Genius Bar. Another proprietary app supposedly helps employees who work in the stock room. If those features work as well as Apple thinks they will, we doubt we’ll see much more of the Pocket PC devices that Apple used to use in the store anymore.
Vodafone Offers Paid SMS Retweet Option
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

It looks like Twitter has taken another small step towards world domination. Now Vodafone has extended its Twitter options in the UK by introducing a new service that will allow Twitter users to retweet messages via SMS. Customers will be able to send “RT twitter username” to 86444. The texts will be charged at the standard network rate, so make sure you don’t get overboard with your Twitter addiction, or you might be facing a rather hefty bill.
Cheetah-Inspired Bike
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

One look at the Pardo and you’ll know that you’re looking at something different compared to your bog-standard bike. In case you didn’t know Pardo is short of guepardo, Spanish for cheetah, so you know where they’re trying to go with this. The rider is supposed to lie on the device, and use the pumping action of your legs to propel yourself forwards (to crash into something hard probably). The Argentinean designer, Pablo Lopez, actually built a working prototype, so if you’re crazy enough to give it a try, you could always ask him (politely).
Is Firefox Coming To The PS3?
Story posted on: November 19, 2009

While the PS3 is a very good gaming machine, the built-in web browser is certainly nothing to shout about. Granted the PS3 wasn’t designed to replace your computer as a web browsing machine, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a better browser. Would going around the Internet is that Sony is in talks with Mozilla to port Firefox over to the PS3. Of course, this is still firming in the rumor bin at the moment, but we’ll have to sit back and see how this works out. Stay tuned!
