12/22/2011, AMD has just released its new Radeon HD 7970. It is a new design based on AMD’s “Graphics Core Next” that had been presented earlier in the year. The goal of this new design was two-fold: 1/win the single GPU performance crown 2/ perform much better in non-graphics computing. Both aspect are critical for AMD because graphics processors obviously need to be fast at gaming in order to sell. However, […]
12/20/2011, AMD has bumped the performance of its A-Series APUs (Accelerated Processing Unit) by releasing an “unlocked” version of some processors and new versions of others. In all, 6 desktop and 8 laptop processors have been announced today. For performance/$ lovers, the two unlocked editions are the most interesting ones: the AMD A8-3870K and AMD A8-3670K. Both chips can be overclocked by about 500MHz on the CPU side, and 200MHz on […]
12/12/2011, According to a recent interview that AMD gave with The Australian (requires a subscription), it would seem as though AMD has plans to enter the ultrabook game themselves. However it is obvious that they will not be using the ultrabook name as it is a term coined by their competitor, Intel, and that they could be entering the market come January of 2012.
12/05/2011, The Mac Pro is currently about 15 months old since its last refresh. Unlike its other Mac siblings, the iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the Mac Pro has yet to see a refresh in 2011 and many are wondering if there is even a plan for a refresh, and thanks to Mac OS X 10.7.3 beta, there may be some evidence discovered that points to a possible Mac Pro […]
11/18/2011, You might want to go to your doctor after reading this post simply because of the sheer amount of salt that you’ll need to go with it, where whispers have it that Apple actually has plans to roll out a MacBook Air that will be powered by a processor from Advanced Micro Devices. Yes folks, as unbelievable as it might sound, don’t write it off yet – remember how so […]
11/17/2011, While ultrabooks may or may not become the new standard for notebooks, if you can’t afford the price of an ultrabook, ASUS has an alternative for you in the form of their new ASUS U32U notebook, which costs about half the price of an ultrabook.
11/15/2011, HP high-end notebook lineup will get three new models, the HP ENVY 15, HP ENVY 17 and HP ENVY 17 3D. The ENVY series was launched the first time in 2009 as a line of elegant and powerful notebooks to compete with the MacBook Pro. I can say that since then, I am impressed by the progress the HP team has made on the design of each generation, by […]
10/31/2011, The AMD FX-8150 was recently used to break a world record in terms of overclocking, but Andre Yang has gone beyond the previous record (8.429GHz) by reaching 8.46151GHz, however he did so by disabling 6 of the 8 cores in order to lower the overall temperature. Depending on how you look at it, this is either smart or cheating. At the very least, we would say that the results can’t […]
10/12/2011, Most games can run fine on a quad-core processor computer. In fact a lot of them already do great on dual-core processor – but that hasn’t stopped processor manufacturers from pushing the bar when it comes to speed and power. AMD recently released its new eight-core Bulldozer FX CPUs, and CyberpowerPC has been one of the companies to quickly take advantage of the processors for its gaming PC lineup. Called […]
09/13/2011, Just in time for the Intel Developer Forum, AMD announces that it has set the official Guinness World Record for the “Highest Frequency of a Computer Processor” with an insane frequency of 8.429GHz. The previous record was 8.308GHz, but in the world where every microsecond counts, it’s a clear win. AMD should get its award from Guinness tomorrow evening in San Francisco. There’s no doubt that this is going to […]
09/07/2011, AMD has just launched two Accelerated Processing Units*(APUs) in the entry-level segment. This new addition to the AMD line-up will allow AMD customers (PC manufacturers) to build more affordable systems that are still fairly capable in terms of gaming and HD video. Additionally, these system can also work hand in hand with a more powerful discrete graphics processor to aggregate the computing power of both chips.
