stands for Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode, is a display technology in which an electro-luminescent organic compound (organic=contains Carbon) is used to light up pixels. Active Matrix refers to a technique to control the pixels and sub-pixels (RGB components) state which was introduced in the mid-70s. Active Matrix is used with many kinds of displays, but the most famous are TFT LCD and AMOLED.
