iPod touch to get camera in spring?

Rumors of an iPod touch that has a camera have surfaced again, and this time it’s said that the device will be released in spring 2010, which is slightly unusual, considering that it’s outside of Apple’s typical upgrade cycle. Apparently the camera will be the same 2-megapixel camera that the iPod nano has, and unfortunately will also lack autofocus and low-light sensitivity. We’re fairly sure that nobody will be complaining if Apple decides to add a camera to its iPod touch, unless they decide to increase the price significantly.

Smoking May Void Your Mac Warranty

Smoking May Void Your Mac Warranty

We all know that smoking is bad for health, but it seems that it might also be bad for your Macbook or iMac. Reports are going around that 2 customers have been denied warranty repairs to their MacBook and iMac by Apple, despite both having extended AppleCare warranties. The reason behind it is that the machines were exposed to second-hand smoke, and Apple claims that the nicotine released from cigarettes is classified as a bio-hazard by the Operational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and thus, Apple employees are within their rights to refuse to work on a machine that has come into contact with the chemical. Have any of you encountered such an issue before? Drop us a comment and let us know your experience.

iTablet Hoax Surfaces

A report from the Huffington Post has been making rounds on the Internet about an iTablet. The article was certainly written tongue in cheek, though many people did think that it was confirmation that the iTablet had become a reality. That being said, with the anticipation so high that Apple will be releasing an Apple Tablet sometime soon, it’ll be great to see Apple suddenly lift the lid on such a product, and we’re fairly sure that it would generate a lot of hype.

Gmail Bandwidth Bug On Snow Leopard

For those of you who use Gmail on Snow Leopard, have you been experiencing any problems? It seems that quite a few folks have been encountering a bug where accounts are locked out for supposedly exceeding IMAP bandwidth limits when using Apple Mail under Snow Leopard. This is supposedly a known issue for users of Apple Mail on Snow Leopard, and Google and Apple are working to sort this out. Check out Google’s support page on this issue here.

iPhone Sales Increasing In Europe

iPhone Sales Increasing In Europe

It seems that the increased number of iPhone carriers over in France has led to a boost in sales for the cell phone. This indicates that a similar situation might happen in the UK, which Apple will certainly be hoping for. A report shows that Apple’s value market share in France made a significant jump, thanks to the phone’s availability on Bouygues Telecom and SFR. With O2’s exclusivity deal expiring earlier this month, Orange has launched the device and managed a first day sales of 30,000 units, putting the iPhone well on course to dominate the world.

Qualcomm Demos FLO TV On iPhone

Qualcomm Demos FLO TV On iPhone

Qualcomm has demonstrated a sample receiver that would bestow the iPhone and iPod touch the ability to receive FLO TV reception. While the receiver itself is probably as large as the iPhone, there’s no mention as to whether the size is due to it being a test/demo unit, or if that’s really the size required to make it work. There isn’t any information as to whether such a device is planned for production, but it’s always good to see companies try and stay ahead in terms of tech.

iPod Touch To Help Out More In Apple Stores

iPod Touch To Help Out More In Apple Stores

Based on previous reports, we know that the iPod Touch will be getting an EasyPay system to help check out items at the Apple Store, But aside from that, it seems that Apple store employees will be provided with at least 3 exclusive, separate applications that will help with a bunch of tasks. One of which will allow employees to swap iPhones or iPods on the store floor, something which could only be done at the Genius Bar. Another proprietary app supposedly helps employees who work in the stock room. If those features work as well as Apple thinks they will, we doubt we’ll see much more of the Pocket PC devices that Apple used to use in the store anymore.

Apple tablet delayed again

Apple tablet delayed again

Could the rumored Apple tablet actually end up as vaporware? Word has it that the tablet will come in a choice of either LCD or OLED displays, but bad news accompanies such nuggets of information - this would most probably push the tablet's release date back until the end of next year as Apple attempts to lower the final price. Sources point towards a $2,000 price tag even then, which is just crazy expensive for a device that runs on the iPhone OS (although that might change in the future). What do you think - is the Apple tablet a viable device?

iPhone blows air now

Posted on November 19, 2009 4:56 AM

Many relevant applications have taken advantage of the iPhone's microphone to blow air into it, but how about turning the tables this time round? There is a new application in town that relies on the speaker to blow air out instead without having to rely on additional peripherals or attachments. According to the developers, the speaker is powerful enough to "blow out candles, herbs, and refresh your skin during hot summer nights." How long will the speaker hold up in the long run if this app were to be used regularly?

Wired To Cater For Apple Tablet

Wired To Cater For Apple Tablet

Talk about the allure of the rumored Apple Tablet. While Apple hasn’t confirmed whether it’s working on such a device or not, the folks at Wired magazine are already taking steps to keep ahead of the competition by preparing a digital version of it’s magazine for upcoming tablets. While tablets getting popular, they’re still nowhere near the level of popularity that netbooks enjoy at this current time, will an Apple tablet change the scene like how the iPhone did? We’ll have hope that the rumors of the Apple Tablet are true, and wait, won’t we?

Mac OS X 10.7 in the pipeline

Mac OS X 10.7 in the pipeline

Guess there's no point resting on one's laurels, which is why word has it that Apple is already ready to work on Mac OS X 10.7, thanks to the discovery of a new database entry for the open source "launchd" framework that is behind the booting of Mac OS X references, where "11A47" is accompanied by a new error message. Judging by Apple's numbering scheme in the past, the numerical prefix of a Mac OS X build will determine the version number, and in this case 11A47 conveniently points toward the next version of the operating system, Mac OS X 10.7.

Asus Beats HP In Terms Of Reliability

In a recent study conducted by SquareTrade, it seems that Asus has the best track record in terms of notebook reliability. While Asus topped the list, the bottom part of the list was taken by HP, which would probably be rather disappointing to the numerous HP fans out there. This would probably suggest that if you’re planning to get a serious laptop, you’ll want spend a little bit more and go with the more reliable company. Check out more details on this over here.

Verizon Hits Back At AT&T

Verizon Hits Back At AT&T

It was fairly obvious that AT&T wasn’t happy with all those ads that Verizon has been putting out lately, and the lawsuit against Verizon just served to confirm that. Now it seems that Verizon is hitting back at AT&T, by issuing a memorandum of law, responding to AT&T’s temporary restraining order which attempts to block the coverage map-based ads. Part of the statement reads “AT&T did not file this lawsuit because Verizon's 'There's A Map For That' advertisements are untrue; AT&T sued because Verizon's ads are true and the truth hurts." Ouch!

Apple Checks App Store Submissions Using Software?

If you’re wondering how Apple managed to process so many of the applications that submitted to it for approval in the App Store, the answer seems to be that Apple has just recently started running the apps through a static analysis tool to look for private API calls. Private APIs are used to access features that Apple does not want to make available to third-party developers. With this latest system, it’ll be much easier for Apple to find use of private API calls, which will be much harder for a human tester to find.

Black Friday deals from Apple

Black Friday deals from Apple

What you see here could possibly be Apple’s annual Black Friday deals, where it seems all iPods (save for the iPhone and shuffle) will receive a whopping 30% discount, and Macs will be 25% cheaper while other Apple software and accessories will benefit from a 15% discount. This deal is supposedly legal only for November 27th and at selected Apple stores which will open its doors from 6 in the chilly morning onwards.

Apple patents new device design

Apple patents new device design

Apple recently filed a patent on a design for a device which prevents its own owner from using it unless said person has shown that he/she has complied with an advertiser's demands. This involves paying enough attention to an ad which requires taking necessary action as proof. Pretty weird to pay money for something and then being forced to watch ads on it, eh? This is pretty much a weird way of doing business, but knowing Apple's creativity, it might just spawn something else.

Windows Mobile Loses Serious Market Share

Windows Mobile Loses Serious Market Share

According to market researcher Gartner, Windows Mobile lost a whole 28 percent of its smartphone market share between last year’s Q3 and this year’s Q3, dropping from 11 percent to 7.9 percent. Apple’s iPhone unsurprisingly rose from 12.9 percent to 17.1 percent, as did RIM’s share jump from 16 percent to 20.8 percent. Symbian’s share dropped about 10 percent from 49.7 to 44.6, and Google’s Android stands at 3.9 percent share. With the recent rise of Android’s popularity, Microsoft might need to buck up or risk losing more business.

Flash 10.1 Coming To Android In 2010

We already know that Adobe has promised webOS users that they’ll get Flash 10.1 on their devices in the first half of 2010, and now it looks like Android users will be getting the same deal too, as a message from Adobe reads: “Adobe Flash Player 10.1 is coming to Android 2.0 and future releases in the first half of 2010." Now hopefully Apple will succumb to the pressure and allow Adobe to offer Flash on its iPhone.

Apple Approves Rejected Caricature App

You have to admit that apps that get rejected on Apple’s AppStore tend to get quite a bit of publicity, and the Bobble Rep-111th Congress Edition app is no difference. The app has 540 caricatured heads, which will bobble around when the iPhone is shaken and costs 99 cents. Apple initially rejected it because it supposedly violated the developer license agreement due to it containing content that ridicules public figures. Fortunately Apple has relented; after all, caricatures aren’t that bad, right? You can now bobble the heads of senators for $0.99.

Pystar Dealt Blow In Battle With Apple

When Psystar first started to sell Mac clones, nobody thought that they would be able to win against Apple, and it looks like everybody was right. After a rather long drawn battle with Apple in courts, a judge has rules in Apple’s favor in its copyright-infringement case against Psystar. Long story short, the judge deemed that “has violated Apple's exclusive reproduction right, distribution right, and right to create derivative works”. More details of it can be downloaded in PDF form here. This ruling did not include a permanent injunction against Psystar, but that’s because Apple has not requested one yet, but we’re fairly sure that they will.
