Sony Ericsson Kurara previewed

Mobile Review has taken the yet unreleased Sony Ericsson Kurara for a spin, and here's what they have to say about it.

The product doesn’t offer any innovations that can make one open his mouth and say “Wow” – it’s a solid, likable phone, whose fate depends entirely on its price tag. At 300 Euro it’ll be a bestseller, make no mistake about that; however if they opt to charge a premium for the non-existent brand value, it won’t make any impact on the market. All in all, the U5 is a decent phone, but it needs a fitting marketing strategy more than anything else right now.

Guess there's still some work left to be done by the marketing department in order to make the Kurara a success.

Spotify now arrives on Nokia

Spotify has just updated their software to be inclusive of the entire Nokia device range, which translates to Spotify Premium users being able to access their Spotify accounts on their favorite Nokia device via a Symbian application. As for Spotify free users, they will first need to make the upgrade jump in order to take advantage of this capability. Mobile Spotify users will be empowered to create and synchronize playlists, save music to playback in offline mode and search and stream music over the air. Good to see the Symbian platform still have some ways to go.

Kyocera Torino S2300 and Domino S1310

Kyocera's latest two handsets are the Torino S2300 and Domino S1310 which are tipped to hit both the US and worldwide markets next year, where the former falls under the QWERTY messaging device category while the Domino S1310 will cater for those who want the best bang for their buck in these economically challenging times. The Torino S2300 is a CDMA supporting handset, featuring a 2.2" QVGA TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity and a 1.3-megapixel camera, although we do question the wisdom of a 2.5mm headset jack. As for the Domino S1310, this CDMA handset comes with Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, airplane mode, IM support and basic functions such as a calculator and stopwatch. No idea on pricing for either handset though.

Motorola Crush offers affordable touchscreen

Motorola seems to be picking up the pace with their latest touchscreen device that won't hurt your pockets, known as the Motorola Crush. This EV-DO Rev.0 device will be equipped with a 2.8” touchscreen at 240 x 400 resolution, a 2-megapixel camera, a virtual on-screen QWERTY keypad, stereo Bluetooth connectivity and a 3.5mm audio port. Apart from that, you get an interesting Tap-to-silence feature that saves you the trouble of switching profiles in a meeting. All in all a pretty basic phone which ought to serve its days out well.

Dell cuts Motorola Droid price

Dell has slashed the Motorola Droid (see our review) price to a mere $119 with a 2-year contract with Verizon Wireless. Good news for those who want a Droid and don't mind sticking to the same carrier as this deal also applies to contract extensions. At $119 a pop, it is clearly tempting, especially when Dell will Fedex it to your doorstep for free.

Samsung outs Diva cellphones

Samsung will target the fairer sex this time round with a couple of handsets that fall under the Diva brand, where they are the S5150 Olivia and S7070. The former is a clamshell handset with a small external display, a 2.2" QVGA internal display, Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD memory card slot and a 3-megapixel camera. As for the Samsung S7070, this does resemble the Star somewhat where you get a new diamond center button alongside a 5-megapixel camera, a 3" WQVGA resistive touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD memory card slot and an integrated FM radio. Expect both models to hit the market sometime in Q1 next year.

31337 phone

Check out the 31337 (Elite) phone from designer Shane Crozier - it looks much more like a fashion accessory than anything else, where it is able to hook up to Facebook and Twitter, downloading and synchronizing your contacts onto the handset so that you no longer have the excuse not to have anyone's number. Other standard features such as a camera, speakerphone, music and video playback alongside Internet functionality have been omitted in order to keep the form factor small enough to slip into your pocket.

Verizon to offer Samsung Omnia II

Verizon to offer Samsung Omnia II

The Samsung Omnia II will be heading towards Verizon Wireless, although it does make us wonder why the carrier would release a Windows Mobile 6.5 device to go up against the Motorola Droid from their own stable. SEems that it will retail for $200 a pop for a 2-year contract, although at that price point you will need to send in a $100 mail-in rebate. The Omnia II is set for a December 2 release.

Motorola Motus spotted in the wild

Motorola Motus spotted in the wild

As with many other spyshots of any device, the Motorola Motus takes on the form of an extremely blur image, and it does seem to share some resemblance with the Motorola CLIQ. You get a flat keyboard with this sans D-pad for navigation purposes. Word on the street point towards Android 1.6 as the operating system of choice, alongside a 5-megapixel camera as it is tipped to roll out sometime in Q1 2010. Does look like a fingerprint magnet to us though, that much we can confirm.

Gameloft to slow down on Android games

Gameloft to slow down on Android games

Gameloft is famous for their range of mobile games, but they have just revealed that they will be slowing down on Android game development due to a lack of potential revenue and slow adoption of the platform. According to Gameloft finance director Alexandre de Rochefort, “We have significantly cut our investment in Android platform, just like … many others. It is not as neatly done as on the iPhone. Google has not been very good to entice customers to actually buy products. On Android nobody is making significant revenue.” Oh, is this a big blow to Android as we all know that games do sell hardware. Would this result in a snowball effect for buying more iPhones?

Samsung Bada phone coming in 2010

Samsung recently unveiled that they will be unveiling a Bada-powered handset sometime in the first half of 2010, but while we wait with bated breath for that day to roll around, here are a couple more nuggets of information from Samsung - apparently the Korean company will give Android 1.6 (aka Donut) a miss with their new Android-powered handsets that will hit Asia in Q1 next year, but will instead go straight to Android 2.0 (Eclair).

iPhone blows air now

Posted on November 19, 2009 4:56 AM

Many relevant applications have taken advantage of the iPhone's microphone to blow air into it, but how about turning the tables this time round? There is a new application in town that relies on the speaker to blow air out instead without having to rely on additional peripherals or attachments. According to the developers, the speaker is powerful enough to "blow out candles, herbs, and refresh your skin during hot summer nights." How long will the speaker hold up in the long run if this app were to be used regularly?

GPhone is very real

GPhone is very real

Most people by now have dismissed the fact that Google's once-rumored GPhone is software in the form of the Google Android operating system, but word has it an actual piece of hardware is in the works. Apparently, the Google Phone will be even more exciting compared to the already delectable Motorola Droid, which goes to say a whole lot. Google won't plunge head long into manufacturing the handset but will instead rely on a major mobile company - this while Google is in full control where design and specifications are concerned.

Philips Xenium K700 clone

Philips Xenium K700 clone

How many times have a clone of a product actually beat the actual device to the market? Happens only once in a blue moon, eh? Having said that, you'd best put your head out of the window and see whether the moon has turned that color, since the Philips Xenium K700 clone is already out even though its supposed blueprint isn't even official just yet. This Shanzai effort will come with a 3" display at 240 x 400 resolution and support for CDMA and GSM networks. No idea on its operating system of choice, although Windows Mobile would be a pretty good bet.

T-Mobile sells Sidekicks again

T-Mobile seems to have finally flushed the Sidekick data loss incident out of their system, having released this statement.

“T-Mobile is pleased to announce that Sidekick sales have resumed. New pricing for the Sidekick LX 2009 will be $149.99 with a two-year contract and the Sidekick 2008 will be $49.99 with a two-year contract.”

One thing remains though - sales of the devices might begin, but will customers have any more faith in the infrastructure anymore? After all, once bitten, twice shy. Only time will tell.

This is a good $80 discount off the original $179 sticker price, where this deal is good till December. If you're on the lookout for a couple of Android phones at the moment without waiting for the Motorola Droid, this could be it. [Press Release]

iPhone C6 runs Windows Mobile

We suppose taking a look at the iPhone C6 will evoke the same emotions as checking out a Mac that runs on Windows all those years ago when Boot Camp launched, as the C6 will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Inside, you will get 8GB worth of storage space, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS navigation support, a 3.5" display, 256MB ROM, Bluetooth support and a 450MHz Samsung processor.
