12/17/2009, The PC crossover controller known as SplitFish Dual SFX Evolution is now shipping just in time to meet the Christmas deadline for those who want something different under the tree this holiday season. The Dual SFX Evolution “combines the intuitive action gaming mechanics of 2 tier accuracy control into one complete control interface”, resulting in an integrated motion/analog joystick system which offers the advantage of both macro and micro gaming […]
12/08/2009, We’ve added the PlayStation 3 game console to our 2009 Uber10 list, but we’ve spotted on 1up that a Yahoo article warns potential buyers that once the battery dies (and we mean dies completely), it’s game over for the controller, you’ll have to replace the controller completely – which is worth $55 or so. The article from Anne Kadet points out that other controllers use replaceable AA batteries that can […]
10/16/2009, Nyko has added a few more colors to their Wii wands, where you can choose from a quartet of colors including blue and pink Wiimotes just like how Nintendo has rolled out those colors officially in Japan. Expect Nyko’s offerings to come with a $29.99 price point – anyone going to pick tis one up?
10/07/2009, [CEATEC 09] KDDI was showing this bizarre “joystick” for mobile phones based on a plastic tube that is stuck on the back of a cellphone by a magnet. The idea is to attach this white tube so that the phone’s camera can look into it. At the end of the joystick, there’s a color pattern (one red and one blue square) that the camera can track by “seeing” any motion […]
10/04/2009, The Numark NS7 Controller was specially made to work with Serato’s ITCH software, where it is able to offer DJs the feel of a traditional turntable rig, despite boasting the ability to function as a controller for ITCH. All you need is a single USB interface and you’re good to go, making it more or less idiot-proof inthe process. The NS7 will be complemented by the NSFX that was just […]
10/03/2009, If you’re bored of your bog standard Xbox 360 controller, you would always consider modding it, but if that seems to troublesome and messy, then you could always go pick up a cool and already-modded one off the shelf. Enter the XCM Blue Blood, which is going for $29.99 and will certainly make your Xbox controller stand out from the rest of the pack. That being said, we do have […]
09/18/2009, Give the Playstation 3 controller to a master like Ben Heck and be intrigued by the results – although this time round we’re rather disappointed that this cannot launch a nuclear missile, it still comes with a unique way of playing with the controller. After all, Heck did have the intention “to make the shoulder buttons easier to get at”, and the end result looks rather weird. PS3 owners – […]
09/04/2009, [IFA 2009] Fujitsu has the Air Commander, which is similar to the Nintendo Wii controller, but for PCs. They claim that it is compatible with all PC games, although most PC games aren’t designed to be controlled that way. Now, I wonder if I could use it to replace the mouse in Windows Media Center… hum… Available next month, for 40 Euros.
09/03/2009, Word is going around that the recently released firmware upgrade version 3.00 has resulted in a flurry of controller connection issues for owners of the PS3, especially those who are using the DualShock3 model CECHZC2H (Ceramic White) as they can’t even connect to the console at all. Even when turned on, the controller LEDs for ports 1 and 2 activate despite the controller being rendered no better than a paperweight. […]
09/02/2009, Ben Heck is at it yet again, this time round catering to southpaws who happen to own an Xbox 360 and yet cannot get used to the way the left and right triggers are placed. Ben decided to swap the action buttons and D-pad positions, alongside the aforementioned triggers, while making available another set of X, Y, B and A buttons on the back. The whole point? To provide more […]
08/17/2009, Look what landed on my desk: the “satin” silver version of the Dual Shock 3. In theory this controller is simply a color variant of the classic black one. It also exists in red and (metallic) blue. I played with it a little and the button action (expecially the front L/R ones) is smoother than my PS3′s original controller. I guess that they got better at making these, although any conclusion based […]
07/29/2009, Independence Day might be a distant memory for most of us by now, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to depict your patriotism any more, right? Sony’s backing us up by releasing both red and blue DualShock 3 controllers to complement the white version later this October. Guess other countries with similar colors in their flags also qualify, so if you’re thinking about letting the world know just how […]
07/02/2009, Sonos’ latest CR200 controller comes with a touchscreen display and a charging cradle, making it look futuristic as all get out. No idea on pricing, but it ought to be available in store shelves right about now. There will also be a new bundle by Sonos, where the BU250 ships with the CR200 alongside introducing a slight color change with the zoneplayers hardware so that they will match the new […]
06/02/2009, [E3 2009] Sony is back with another iteration of their webcam-based controller. As usual, the principle is that you are waving one or two glowvy trackers that the Ps3 can recognize easily. We’ve seen this before, except that this time, it worked much better than in previous attempts (dating from 2000 or so). The demo was fun and at time impressive. We liked how accurate this seems to be. Weapons, […]
