12/13/2012, Getting shot by a paintball during a paintball event is painful enough, even when you brace yourself for it, so you can only imagine how much more it will hurt when you get shot while completely unaware. We’re pretty sure that this flying drone armed with a paintball gun might not be legal, especially when you target civilians, but we can’t help but think it’s a pretty cool idea nonetheless. […]
11/01/2012, The US Army and General Dynamis announced today that they’ve tested guided 81-millimeter mortar rounds mounted onto a small, 200 pound drone. Previously, guided drone strikes required huge drones like the Predator or Global Hawk, equipped with five-foot long Hellfire misiles costing $68,000 a pop. But the Air Drop Mortar (ADM) announced today is much smaller, and much cheaper: the 17-foot long drone successfully hit a target with an 81mm […]
10/30/2012, You know what they say – a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and in the case of the US military with their vaunted army of Predator and Reaper drones, it was discovered that our men and women in uniform have failed to secure the transmissions of more than 50% of their drone fleet – this bit of information coming about four years after discovering that militants […]
10/30/2012, The military and quasi-military divisions of the United States Government have been able to launch missiles from unarmed flying drones for a while, but only recently have they expanded the functionality to unmanned seafaring vessels. Today, the Naval Sea Systems Command’s Naval Special Warfare Program Office announced that they successfully launched six missiles from an unmanned vessel on October 24. The missiles launched were Rafael Spike missiles, which feature automatic self-guidance with a […]

09/17/2012, Beach season may be over in the United States, but in Australia (and the rest of the Southern Hemisphere) it’s just getting started. And in preparation for the oncoming hordes of beachgoers heading to Queensland, Australia, lifeguards are prepping remotely piloted drones to monitor the beaches. Surf Life Saving Queensland has chosen Aerobot’s Ring Drone to patrol the beach, and drop buoys on those swimmers struggling to keep their heads […]
09/07/2012, Drones have been commonly used for military purposes. They are lightweight compared to conventional aircrafts and can be remotely controlled. However, they can be put to other uses than military strikes. For instance, a drone can be used to carry emergency relief provisions to such areas which have been struck with a catastrophe. Such humane applications of drones are being studied and tested out by a humanitarian group called Ideate.
04/04/2012, Do it once, do it right – but unfortunately, not everyone gets the job done right the first time around, which is why we humans learn best from our mistakes. When we talked about the DRONE open source Bluetooth controller that targeted smartphones and tablets (due to the lack of buttons on those devices these days) last month, the design looked great, save for the fact that a poll ran […]

Called an open source Bluetooth controller, it is a gamepad designed to work with your smartphones and tablets.
12/30/2011, Drones are useful – they not only get behind enemy lines to make sure the job is done, it also more or less eliminates the risk of losing someone’s life in the process. Most drones used by the army comes in the form of an airplane, but the Argus-IS is different, considering how it is inspired by the helicopter, allowing it to hover around. This translates to the ability to […]
11/16/2011, Just when you thought that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs for short) being used in the battlefield is the next best thing since sliced bread, considering the ‘pilot’ needs not head out to the battlefield and risk his life, along comes the report of the first known friendly-fire deaths from a drone airstrike to dampen whatever enthusiasm you have. Well, the US military definitely wants to learn from this painful lesson, […]
11/14/2011, When we talk about drones, most of the time we think of the Predator – this huge winged beast the flies like a remote controlled plane, making war seem more like a video game compared to the visceral air experience that combat pilots of both World Wars had to go through. Well, it seems as though the wonders of miniaturization has struck again, this time around with the SQ-4 nanodrone […]

11/02/2011, It has been so frequent that we read about our troops in far off lands like Iraq and Afghanistan getting killed by suicide bombers that I can safely say we’re more or less numb about it already. Hopefully, the advancement of technology might soon help our boys in uniform to be able to fend off insurgents and other suicide bombers in an easier and stealthier manner. Soon, US troops will […]
