12/12/2011, It must be said that the Kindle Touch e-book reader from Amazon is not exactly the beefiest kid on the block when it comes to system specifications and hardware performance, but that does not mean it is a slouch in its performance, either. No sir, you won’t find Google’s Android operating system running on the Kindle Touch, but that does not mean the Kindle Touch has been banished to development […]
12/09/2011, We’ve had a number of jailbreaks for iOS 5.0 in the past, but they all left the phone in a tethered/semi-tethered state – which basically meant they wouldn’t be fully-functional when restarted without a computer. Well, it looks like those days are almost over because pod2g, an iOS hacker, has successfully developed a fully untethered jailbreak for the operating system. Uploading a video on YouTube, he demonstrated the phone booting […]
12/09/2011, While iOS 5 can be jailbroken, unfortunately its jailbreaking method is currently limited to a tethered jailbreak. What this means is that whenever you restart your iPhone, it will have to be plugged into the computer. Not a huge deal but highly inconvenient if you travel frequently, and thanks to a Twitter update by famed iPhone hacker, MuscleNerd, it looks like an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak could be headed our […]
12/05/2011, Siri is one of the most popular features of the iPhone 4S and when people realized that it had no problem running on iOS devices, developers have been working hard at trying to port the app. Well, a group of hackers known as the CD-Dev Team recently managed to pull it off with its own port, H1Siri, and proxy servers. Unfortunately, the code which it used for testing was unintentionally […]
10/28/2011, Heads up iPhone 4S owners, it looks like a jailbreak for your brand new device has been found, about two weeks after the device has gone up on sale in certain parts of the world. This has been confirmed by iClarified with the iPhone Dev-Team posting a video of the jailbreak in action, but before you get too excited, take note that this is only a preliminary jailbreak.
10/24/2011, A couple of weeks ago we reported the arrival of a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5, and now it looks like we’re one step closer to having a full untethered jailbreak for the operating system. It’s been reported that there now exists a semi-tethered version of the jailbreak – which means that you can reboot your phone with your computer but if you do, your phone won’t have access to […]
10/13/2011, iOS 5 isn’t even out for a full 24 hours and the iPhone Dev Team managed to roll out a jailbroken (tethered) iOS 5 that caters for the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, both iPads, and the iPod touch (3rd and 4th generations, of course). Needless to say, the jailbreak will not work with the iPhone 4S at the moment simply because they do not have the smartphone in their […]
09/19/2011, Fancy having your iOS device display the look and feel of OS X? Well, some users certainly feel that way, where a built-in file manager that does so would make one feel more at home despite using a mobile device. Since Apple has yet to accede to this particular request, some enterprising folk in the jailbreaking community decided to literally take things into their own hands, hence the Lion Ultimatum […]
08/22/2011, If you are part of the iOS hacking community, then surely you would be aware that Apple’s latest beta, iOS 5 beta 6, has been jailbroken. Yes sir, the Sn0wbreeze 2.8 Beta 6 unlock tool will enable developers to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 6, where this particular version of Sn0wbreeze seems to work on just about all iOS devices – save for the iPad 2, of course. You can always […]
08/09/2011, A while back we mentioned that non-developer devices that were running on iOS 5 would be disabled by Apple due to them not having the proper authorization. While we can’t confirm that there have been many cases of devices being disabled due to unauthorized use of iOS 5, if you are such a user, it appears that the jailbreak for iOS 5 beta 5 has already been released.
08/05/2011, All good things must come to an end, and if you see yourself being an illegal tetherer on the iPhone over AT&T’s network as a good thing, that, my friend, is going to have its curtain drawn down as well. Ma Bell will be removing unlimited plans for users who jailbreak their iPhones in order to tether off AT&T’s unlimited data plans. Check out what an AT&T spokesperson has to […]
07/17/2011, We covered news last Friday concerning Apple’s release of iOS 4.3.4, where it was said to patch up the PDF security vulnerability which allowed JailbreakMe.com to play nice, having received a tethered jailbreak within hours – yup, talk about working at the speed of light! It seems that where untethered jailbreak is concerned, things work out differently – at least that is what popular developer i0n1c says. i0n1c is also […]
07/12/2011, Remember the potential security theat in iOS that Apple was reported to be fixing last week? Well, the fix still isn’t here yet – at least not officially. It turns out that jailbreaking your iPhone is the key to solving this problem. Gizmodo suggests that users use JailbreakMe.com to jailbreak their devices and then download the PDF Patch to patch the hole. Once that’s done, they can choose to un-jailbreak […]
07/08/2011, On Wednesday, a German site reported about a serious flaw in iOS that if left unfixed, could leave the operating system vulnerable to malware without the user’s knowledge. The issue is due to the way iOS handles PDF files – even those that are infected. Read up more about the security hole here. Fortunately it has been reported that Apple has learnt about the issue and is working on a […]
