Kindle 2 Gets New Colors
Posted on May 11, 2009 9:59 AM

ColorWare is one company that aims to make life much more, er, colorful with their expertise of draping devices in new shades apart from the stock colors it comes in. The Kindle 2 is the latest gadget to receive the ColorWare treatment, where you'll be able to choose from a customization page to make sure that various parts of the Kindle 2 will come in the exact shade you want it. Sending in an existing Kindle 2 to ColorWare will cost $199, while those who want to pick up a new customized one from ColorWare themselves will have to fork out $599. Expensive, but then again being at the front of the crowd often costs, doesn't it?
Kindle DX: Budget-Friendly For Students?
Posted on May 7, 2009 11:08 AM

Amazon has enjoyed much press as of late, but by positioning the Kindle DX as a student-friendly device, the company has made a mistake and criticism is now mounting. We think that for tech enthusiasts and whoever wants to use eBooks, the $488 pricing is probably something that the market can bear.
However, for a cash-strapped student the added-value, if any, is much harder to demonstrate. Amazon's argument is that over the course of three years, students break-even or "save" money when comparing the cost of the Kindle DX+ebooks ($1239) and dead-tree books ($1464).
It is interesting until one realizes that the book aftermarket is not being taken into account by Amazon (yes students do sell their old books!). We thought that Amazon was selling used book, right? And this doesn't take into account additional costs that might occur if students email docs to the device. In the end, the Kindle is hardly a device that a student "needs", although it is certainly nice to have. Yet, student aren't always as cash-strapped as one might want us to think: often times, professors are simply looking at a sea of Macbooks, which are hardly the most cost-effective laptops "for cash-strapped students"... Cool has a price, and for eBooks, it's $488.
Amazon Kindle DX: Official Info and Price

The Kindle DX has appeared on Amazon's website and we can now confirm the previously leaked specs: 9.7" display (16 gray levels), auto portrait/landscape mode, PDF reader, wireless 3G, "days" of battery, text to speech.
The price is set at $489, which is not bad compared to the $359 6" Kindle. We actually prefer this larger version by far. Amazon is taking pre-orders of the Kindle DX, but there's no estimated delivery date other than "this summer".
Amazon To Release Larger Kindle
Posted on May 4, 2009 5:55 AM

Word has it that Amazon will be rolling out a larger version of its Kindle e-book reder sometime this week, where this model was specially developed for displaying newspapers and magazines, alongside the possibility of even textbooks. It seems as though selected news organizations including The New York Times will be knee-deep in the introduction of the device. We're extremely interested in the textbooks aspect, as you have no idea just how heavy those darn books are for our college-going kids to tote around campus all day long.
