09/09/2011, If you have an app on your smartphone that supposedly cures your skin problems, we’ve got some bad news for you: you’ve been duped. The FTC has recently fined two developers for creating “acne cure” apps for Android and iOS. Called “AcneApp” and “Acne Pwner”, these apps claimed to be able to cure your acne by using blue and red light therapy. The two separate apps that were available on […]
09/09/2011, Given all the patent wars that are going on right now, you would think Rovio’s lawyers would be swooping in like angry birds (sorry, could not resist!) onto an Angry Birds theme park in China, claiming that they are infringing on intellectual property, so on and so forth. Oddly enough it seems that Rovio has no intention on suing, but instead are open to partnership.
09/09/2011, We’re sure most of you guys have already heard or know this by now, that Apple has been chasing Samsung halfway across the world trying to get their Galaxy smartphones and tablets banned due to Apple claiming they were too similar in design to their iOS products, namely the iPhone and iPad. So far Apple has been successful at getting temporary injunctions but now it looks like Apple has won […]
09/09/2011, The patent wars have been going on for quite a bit now, and while we do believe that your intellectual property should be protected, at this point in time it does seem like these big companies are just using patents as an excuse to edge each other out of the competition. Probably the most recognizable patent war at the moment would be Apple versus Samsung, where Apple has chased Samsung […]
09/08/2011, Earlier today we reported on how Apple was reportedly suing Samsung in Japan for the reasons as they have in the US, Australia and Europe. For some reason Apple is dead set in squashing the possibility of Samsung ever selling their Galaxy smartphones and tablets anywhere in the world.
09/08/2011, Another day, another lawsuit. This time it looks like Apple, HP, Huawei, LG, ZTE, HTC, RIM and Samsung are the ones being collectively sued by ClassCo over caller ID patents. According to ClassCo, the companies mentioned have infringed upon its caller ID patents that are being used in their VoiceAnnounce device (as pictured above), which not only displays the caller’s name/number, but as the name implies, will announce it as […]
09/08/2011, After the Department of Justice objected to AT&T’s plans to acquire T-Mobile, Sprint followed suit and filed a complaint of its own as well, adding more fuel to the fire. It seems that Sprint’s lawsuit ruffled some feathers as AT&T issued a statement in response to its competitor:
09/08/2011, Apple’s legal department must be a darned good one – with tentacles all over the globe, especially now that we have just heard that Apples’ legal eagles have descended upon the Land of the Rising Sun, and will be suing the pants off Samsung Electronics in that corner of the world. The accusation? Patent violations concerning both the iPhone and the iPad, which is starting to prove annoying. First it […]
09/07/2011, You may have heard about all the legal drama surrounding Apple and Android phone manufacturers like HTC or Samsung. With its rapid success, HTC has become a prime target for Apple, and it looked like Apple was having the upper hand, but HTC has “acquired” patents from Google and has started to use them to (counter) sue Apple, again. The root of the problem is that the smartphone market is […]
09/06/2011, Following in the footsteps of the Department of Justice which filed a lawsuit to block the AT&T-T-Mobile acquisition last week, Sprint is also chiming in with a lawsuit of its own, to back the DOJ’s decision. Sprint had previously opposed the merger, but it wasn’t in the form of a lawsuit until today. According to Sprint’s vice president of litigation, the carrier opposes AT&T’s proposed takeover of T-Mobile because it […]
09/06/2011, Apple seems to be embroiled in lawsuits these days (I’d hate to think about how much their attorneys are getting paid!) and this time China-based food company, Sichuan Fangguo Food Co., Ltd, is the target of Apple’s wrath.
09/06/2011, Last week Microsoft was sued for allegedly collecting location data from it Windows Phone users despite them opting out of sending location data on their phones. This week, Microsoft has responded to the lawsuit with a statement saying, “Microsoft is investigating the claims raised in the complaint. We take consumer privacy issues very seriously. Our objective was — and remains — to provide consumers with control over whether and how […]
09/06/2011, The fierce patent infringement lawsuit between Apple and Samsung is still going on, with Apple claiming that Samsung infringed upon its patents and designs for their Galaxy Tab and Galaxy smartphone products. While that may or may not be the case (that’s for the lawyers to argue out and for the judges to decide), as to whether these alleged infringements are impacting Apple’s iPad sales are now being called into […]
08/31/2011, Not content with being left out of the patent lawsuit picture, it looks like Software maker, Openwave Systems has decided to bring out the guns by joining the suing party. Openwave, a company that’s behind a large number of mobile internet related products has filed a lawsuit with the International Trade Commision and a federal court in Delaware, pointing fingers at Apple and RIM for allegedly infringing of five of […]
