The Infractor is an interactive, multitouch table that offers a whole new power inefficient way to read your morning news. Instead of flipping through some sheets of recycled paper, the Infractor will pull articles from the New York Times database, allowing you to search, filter and read desired news items by putting physical objects on the interactive surface. The SurfaceScapes project is the brainchild of students from Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), where it will deliver a proof-of-concept for playing tabletop role-playing games on the Microsoft Surface Table. Dungeons & Dragons was the natural choice when it came to testing the prototype, making us salivate in anticipation should this be a success. Of course, this won't kill off ordinary tabletop gaming as we're sure the entry price would sit well only with a handful of folks, but it will be a top class draw in virtually any gaming expo or convention.
