04/09/2010, Looks like the Nokia N900 is now able to handle Google Chrome, aka Chromium, although this is not an official port by Google so proceed with caution. This version is based on Debian 32-bit release, and those who have given it a go did not really run into major problems, as it features a pretty smooth operation with Flash content support. Despite the efforts of Jacekowski, this port still comes […]
02/10/2010, Nokia’s N900 might be on top of the list for many a hacker, but regardless of how well you can mod it physically or write code for it, you will still need to juice up the device from time to time. Unfortunately, there seems to be a common problem with the N900 which sees the micro USB connector’s surface mount design getting misaligned or disconnected completely. With regards to warranty, […]
02/08/2010, No, Duke Nukem Forever is going to remain just that – taking forever to come out, but if you are still a huge fan of this trash-talking, all-action hero, then watching Duke Nukem 3D in action with the Wiimote ought to pique your interest. To make matters more interesting, Duke Nukem 3D is not running on some old computer, but is instead a by-product of Nokia’s N900 (read our review) […]
02/05/2010, Now this is a merry bunch if we ever saw one – an SNES that is controlled by a Sixaxis controller alongside the Nokia N900 QWERTY handset. Thanks to Tomasz Sterna, he recompiled the kernel to add joystick as well as mouse support. Just make sure your N900′s Bluetooth connectivity is turned on, where you can return to the world of 16-bit gaming in full Mode 7 glory. What are […]
02/03/2010, We’ve reviewed the Nokia N900 late last year, and while the device was pretty decent as a smartphone, it still doesn’t possess that “must have” factor associated with the iPhone 3GS. Having said that, there weren’t a whole lot of quality applications back then, even until today, which is why the Evernote mobile memory tool comes across as a refreshing oasis in the middle of the desert. The Evernote Sharing […]
01/12/2010, Folks who own a Nokia N900 were notified that a new firmware update is currently available on the Application Manager, bringing the latest firmware up to 1.2009.44.1. This firmware doesn’t seem to bring about any major changes, but there are some rather big icons in the Application manager, and a new repository called “Ovi” has been added to the catalogs, so it seems that something cool is going to happen […]
12/22/2009, It seems that Fennec, Mozilla’s mobile version of its very popular Firefox browser, is just a few days away from release. The browser will initially be enabled for the Nokia N900, and since it kind of functions and looks similar to Safari Mobile, you can be pretty sure that it won’t be appearing on the Apple’s AppStore anytime soon. Some of the more interesting features include the fact that it […]
12/09/2009, Nokia’s N900 will be the first Maemo-powered device to get a taste of Fennec, also known as Firefox Mobile. The final version of FireFox Mobile will be available soon (as an optional download), but Nokia N900 owners can already get a foretaste of things to come by downloading the beta version way before that. We’ve seen a demo of Fennec running on the N900, and it seems pretty clear that […]
11/30/2009, Those of you who already own a Nokia N900, you might seriously want to text someone with just one hand. Thanks to the bug, you’ll be able to see everything and use it with just one hand. Of course, you won’t get the tactile feedback like a physical keyboard, but a portrait oriented Nokia N900 is quite cool. Check out a video of it in action here.
11/28/2009, Nokia’s certainly putting a lot of effort into promoting its N900, but it seems that it might have gone a step too far with its latest video (which has since be yanked off YouTube). It was boasting that the N900 could run emulators and showed it running SNES emulators, which is fine, but the problem is that they showcased a video of Super Mario World and Super Ghouls and Ghosts […]
11/25/2009, For the 300 million or so of us living Stateside, the Nokia N900 is now available. This Maemo 5-powered smartphone arrives one week later than what was promised in the press release, but like the age old adage goes, better late than never, eh? Powered by a Cortex-A8 processor, you get 32GB of internal memory to get you started right out of the box. The delay hasn’t affected the recommended […]
11/20/2009, Who would’ve thought that the delectable Nokia N900′s price point would have dropped to a relatively affordable $480 over at Amazon? This is after a $50 mail-in rebate, of course, where you can snag this 32GB capacity smartphone for cheap. Other features to jog your memory include an ARM Cortex-A8 processor and a 5-megapixel camera. No idea on the shipping date though as the device is still in the pre-order […]
11/19/2009, Who would have ever thought that Nokia would have trouble getting a carrier to offer its N900 handset, eh? Well, that’s the current situation, and fortunately Nokia isn’t just sitting back and doing nothing about the phone, instead the Finnish giant is offering the phone for sale unsubsidized for $649. Of course, many of us are still hoping that a carrier will pick up the phone, T-Mobile USA perhaps?
11/10/2009, We previously pointed out to you that the highly anticipated Nokia N900 would be shipping this week, and now it has finally started shipping! In case you’ve forgotten, the N900 is Nokia’s first phone to use Maemo Linux instead of the popular Symbian. If you’re intrigued by this phone, be sure to check out our detailed review of it over here.
