Phecda PHV102 netbook
Posted on November 23, 2009 4:29 AM
The Phecda PHV102 netbook is certainly dirt cheap at $185, but what kind of quality do you get at that kind of price? It will ditch the Intel Atom platform in favor of a VIA C7-M 1.6GHz processor instead, coupled with a VIA VX855 chipset, 1GB RAM, a 160GB hard drive and a 10.2” LCD display at 1,024 x 600 resolution. Seems pretty decent at that price point, which should see a fair number of units fly off the shelves (virtual or otherwise) when made available.

Hopefully the battery life would be a strong point, otherwise all the good work mentioned might just be undone.

It will come in a range of interesting colors including Ferrari Red, Piano Black, Coffee, Gold and Champagne, and it doesn't hurt that it boasts a 10" rotating touchscreen display as well, allowing you to turn it into an impromptu tablet. Good to know that the timing of this device's release coincides with Windows 7's launch, but unfortunately it doesn't come with horizontal-to-vertical display support, hampering its potential from being an eReader-type device.
