01/09/2012, [CES 2012] Since GPS capabilities on smartphones have basically rendered dedicated GPS personal navigators redundant, it looks like Garmin plans to not let that happen. The company has announced the launch of Smartphone Link, an app for Android phones that makes their personal navigators useful again. Smartphone Link will let users connect their Android phones to their 2012 Garmin Nuvi over Bluetooth so that they can communicate and share data.

03/21/2011, Dedicated GPS navigation systems aren’t too popular these days simply because the nature of convergence in devices as well as advances in miniaturization has allowed a GPS chipset to be crammed into something as small as a smartphone, working equally well to boot. Still, Garmin flies the flag for dedicated GPS devices by sending their Garmin nuvi 2575 GPS over to the FCC, from whence we do know that the […]

The nuvi 2460 has paid a visit to the FCC and won approval for its use of Bluetooth while internal pictures show that the device uses an ARM processor from STMicroelectronics. As we previously mentioned, Garmin […]
08/25/2010, Owners of Garmin GPS devices out there might want to take note that the company has just announced that they’re recalling a good 1.25 million nuvi navigation units due to the possibility of faulty batteries. According to the press release, the problem is related to defective third-party batteries which in rare circumstances could increase the chances of overheating, possibly leading to a fire hazard. 01/21/2010, Garmin’s latest Nuvi 1490TV has a feature that’s out of the norm for GPS devices, and in case the name didn’t give it away, we’re talking about digitally broadcast TV (and audio) channels. DVB-T and radio isn’t all that common in the USA, but if you’re over in Europe (where this device was unveiled), you’ll be able to make better use of the features of this device. One of the […]

The most obvious thing you’ll notice about this device is that its body is in red, instead of the usual boring gray/black, and it comes with a red leather case, which will certainly help it blend in […]
10/16/2009, Garmin is getting ready for the holiday season and has introduced the Nuvi 1450, which is a no-nonsense version of the Nuvi 1490T. How so? You get the same navigation experience, but you don’t have to pay for the Bluetooth and the live traffic features (that you probably don’t use anyway). Still, this GPS costs $500, which is still in the “high” range for a personal navigation device.

08/23/2009, Just how fast do you think your GPS unit is able to clock? Some guys decided to take their Garmin Nuvi 265WT on a Cessna 750 plane, and when mounted on one of the passenger windows, the Nuvi was capable of maintaining its satellite lock and report speeds in excess of 500mph – too bad it did terribly in terms of altitude, where there was a discrepancy of several thousand […]
