Olympus Corporation is a Japanese manufacturer of optics and reprography products, as well as precision machinery and instruments based in Tokyo, Japan. Olympus was founded in the year 1919 by Takeshi Yamashita and was previously named “Takachiho Seisakush”
which was derived from Mt. Takachiho. The company then changed its name to the Greek mythology-inspired Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. in 1949 to “reflect its strong aspiration to create high-quality, world-famous products.” And after many years of existence, the company eventually opted for the much simpler name Olympus Corporation in 2003. Olympus’s products include digital cameras (like the OM-D E-M5), film cameras, lenses, voice recorders, and digital audio players.
