Asus O! Play Media Player

The Asus O! Play Media Player is finally here, where it is also known more formally as the O!Play Air HDP-R3. It will come with a minor upgrade as Asus has thrown in 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity alongside a multiple memory card reader for greater file playback options. With an HDMI 1.3 port, you ought to be able to use the O! Play HDP-R3 to handle just about any file format available currently, regardless of how obscure some of them are. Expect to fork out approximately €90 for this bad boy.

Asus O!Play launched

Asus has just launched its O!Play media streaming device that won't cost a bomb, although it isn't really a full fledged computer on its own. What the Asus O!Play can offer though, is this - all you need to do is place it next to your TV and plug in a hard drive (or a flash card with some media files on it) and you will be able to watch video, listen to music and even check out a slideshow of pictures on your TV. Apart from that, an Ethernet jack lets you hook it up to your home network while streaming content from a computer. At $100 a pop, the lack of Wi-Fi connectivity is rather disturbing although it isn't a total turn-off.

This is the first High Definition media player in the world that will be able to handle the following formats with aplomb - MPEG1/2/4, H.264, VC-1 and RM/RMVB. The O!Play HDP-R1 also draws you out of your hermit lifestyle by letting you share videos and photos of yourself instantly from a connected computer/notebook with friends, family and colleagues, all from the comfort of your living rooms. No idea on pricing though, but we can't wait to wrap our hands around the O!Play HDP-R1. [Press Release]
