02/13/2012, All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and I guess that adage rings true with the team over at Arbor Cube, who has just launched its new range of iBuKu Pets, helping older, aged smartphones have a new lease of life while transforming the learning experience into a safe and fun one for your kids. Arbor Cube co-founder Simon Channey claims that iBuKu Pets will merge the […]
01/23/2012, LG and Samsung 55” OLED TV, At CES, both LG and Samsung have committed to commercialize large-size OLED televisions by the end of the year. While no pricing has been announced yet, the rumored price is said to be hovering around $8000. We don’t know how close this is to reality, but it’s fair to assume that most people won’t be able to afford one the first models. Fortunately, OLED […]
01/20/2012, Smartphones have evolved in a way where they now come with larger and brighter displays, sporting ever higher resolutions – and all of that performance means one thing as well, which is a faster depletion of the handset’s battery life. Well, what if there is a way which helps offset the amount of juice consumed by the smartphone’s display? Arman Ahnood, a researcher at the London Centre for Nanotechnology, explained […]
01/16/2012, The march of the smartphone is inevitable – eventually, featurephones will most probably occupy just a minority in the total market share, but at this moment in time, they still are the de facto mobile communication device of choice for developing countries. How about smartphones in the US? A recent survey showed that US smartphone adoption is tipped to hit the 175 million mark by the time 2015 rolls around, […]
01/04/2012, The month of December is a traditionally strong period of sales for retailers, and when it comes to the highly competitive smartphone industry, the same can be said as well. It seems that out of the total handset sales in the last month of 2011, smartphones made up 55% of the figures – in Taiwan, at least. I am not quite sure what the representation is like in other parts […]
11/21/2011, Amazon is holding a penny-pincher sale and has most smartphones (and regular phones) from AT&T, Verizon and Sprint priced at $0.01 for a limited time. This obviously comes with a new contract and Amazon has said that the pricing is only valid for a limited time. Among the top phones in the list, I have seen: the Droid RAZR, the Galaxy S2 Epic Touch 4G. the HTC Rezound, the Atrix […]
11/17/2011, We know that Amazon has several Android tablets planned. They recently released the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet and they have larger models in the works, but if Citigroup’s analysts Mark Mahaney and Kevin Chang are correct, we could be looking at a release of an Amazon Android smartphone by the Christmas of 2012.
11/16/2011, Oops, it looks like HTC did it again! It seems that adult entertainment company, Vivid, is not too pleased with HTC naming one of their devices after their company. Well, technically HTC did not name their device after the adult entertainment company, but the fact that the HTC Vivid shares the “Vivid” name is apparently enough for Vivid Entertainment to send a cease and desist letter to HTC.
11/14/2011, Pogoplug has made a name for itself when it comes to creating a personal cloud. However, it is now introducing a free cloud service for mobiles devices that isn’t hosted by users. The idea behind it is that mobile devices have a limited space, and while you may want to have constant access to your whole photo/media library, it’s not always possible to store all that content on the phone. […]
11/08/2011, The LG Revolution smartphone featuring VMware Horizon Mobile has been named as an International 2012 CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree. VMware Horizon Mobile enables what LG calls “dual personas” on a single mobile device. Basically it allows people to have two totally separate profiles on the same smartphone, one for work and one for personal use.
11/03/2011, “Best in sight and sound” is how HTC is marketing the Rezound. With a beautiful HD screen, Beats audio and a hefty 8-megapixel camera, HTC’s going where no other smartphone has gone before – up and beyond what consumers expect. We had a brief hands-on with the Rezound after its announcement and here are our thoughts. Click on for the full preview of HTC’s next great Android smartphone.
10/28/2011, While there are many pros and cons to using an operating system like Android over iOS, one of the major disadvantages that plagues Android users is the frequency and timing of official updates. Depending on the phone, its manufacturer, and even your carrier, operating system updates aren’t guaranteed all the time and to be on time, especially if you’re using an older Android device. On the other hand, iPhone users […]
10/27/2011, Uh-oh, it looks like LG isn’t doing too well again. The Korean electronics manufacturer recently posted its Q3 2011 financial report and sad to say, it’s far from pleasant. LG reported sales down on both year to year basis and sequentially, and that it has actually lost money over the past three months. Sales in Q3 2011 were only $11.57 billion – 10.3% lower than Q2 2011 and 4% lower […]
10/21/2011, The Apple iPhone 4S might be doing gangbusters in terms of sales, but that does not mean North America is the center of the universe. There is this thing known as the rest of the world, and in Asia, Android-powered handsets top the smartphone purchase list. This is interesting considering the telecom boom in the emerging markets of the Asia-Pacific is tipped to go forward this year, where the total […]
