Nokia could be working on Snapdragon-based Symbian phone

Word has it that Nokia and Qualcomm have teamed up to work on a new Symbian-powered smartphone that will run on a Snapdragon processor, making Nokia handsets speedier than ever with at least a 1GHz clock speed running within the chassis. It seems that this new smartphone will hit the North American market sometime in the middle of this year, and frankly we are quite excited to see what both Nokia and Qualcomm has in store for us. Will this be able to rejuvenate the Symbian platform that is lagging behind the iPhone OS and Android in terms of ease-of-use?

BYD Snaptop concept smartbook powered by Snapdragon

[MWC 2010] Qualcomm was demonstrating this Smartbook at Mobile. It is a concept, not a product, but its design is very interesting to look at. As you can see, there’s a small keyboard – but what you don’t see is that it can be snapped in the back of the device, turning it into a photoframe. The Snaptop is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 and runs a flavor of Linux – Someone there told me that it was Android, but it didn’t look like Android, so I can’t confirm this right now. Is this the future of smart frames?

Pictures And Video Of HTC Incredible

Based on the latest intel, the Incredible will sport a Snapdragon CPU, 256MB of RAM, a 3.5 (or 3.7) inch WVGA display. There is a possibility that it might sport an AMOLED display too. In the camera department, the back of the device shows that it touts dual LED flashes, which is rather cool. This looks like it’s going to be one really cool Android phone, so stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated as information on this is released (or leaked).

Some Editions Of The HTC HD2 Have More RAM?

There is no denying that the HTC HD2 is an extremely capable and powerful smartphone, especially with its 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. Despite its already impressive specs, which include a nice 448MB of RAM, nobody is going to complain about more RAM, right? Surprisingly, some folks have discovered that their HTC HD2 units have a little extra memory (576MB), albeit in a disabled state. Of course, it’s not like it’s a huge difference like a 1GB bump or something, but every little bit helps, right? Those of you who own a HTC HD2, have you noticed this issue?

Rumored Windows Mobile 7 Minimum Requirements

When will Windows Mobile 7 be released? It’s going to be hard to guess, but folks have been speculating that there will be an announcement during the upcoming Mobile World Congress, and there is a possibility that it might be released at the end of 2010. That being said, the apparent minimum specs required for phones which plan to run Windows Mobile have started floating around the Internet, so we feel obliged to post it here. Judging from the requirements, though, it certainly seems like Windows Mobile 7 phones are going to be high-end ones, since the mid-range or low-range phones that are currently on the market certainly don’t match up to those specs. So maybe there is some truth to the whispers that Microsoft will be keeping Windows Mobile 6.5 alive for the moment. The (rumored) minimum requirements of Windows Mobile 7 are:

  • 1GHz processor
  • 3.6 inch WVGA display
  • G-sensor and compass
  • 8GB of onboard memory
  • 5-megapixel camera

Motorola MOTOSPLIT Leaked?

It’s amazing how leaked pictures are almost always blurry, but if they weren’t blurry, everybody would just say it’s a fake, right? There’s no way to tell how accurate this leaked render is, but according to the accompanying leaked information, it’s dubbed the Motorola MOTOSPLIT, and will be powered by Google’s Android OS. As for the form factor, it sure looks a lot like Nokia’s old 6820, except that it’s much thinner and will be packing a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Apparently it’ll be available on AT&T in Q3 of 2010. Do you think that this is true, or just another fake by someone who has too much time on his hands?

HP Choses Snapdragon Over Atom

Intel certainly isn’t going to be too happy at HP’s announcement that its testing Qualcomm’s ARM A8 Cortex based Snapdragon chip for use in its smartbook. Intel has been dominating the netbook market with its Atom processor, but Snapdragon is certainly going to be a formidable opponent in the mobile computing scene. Apparently Qualcomm and HP have agreed to come up with a smartbook based on Snapdragon. The device should be powered by Google’s Android and the Snapdragon QSD8250 chipset with an integrated Scorpion central processing unit. How will the tablet computers affect Intel’s Atom market share, will give Qualcomm a fighting chance to take on Intel?
