04/10/2012, For a long time now, Space-based solar power has seemed feasible enough and can ensure a cheaper and more eco-friendly source of energy for our planet. But for an equally long time, nothing has happened with this issue. Now however, the giant solar microwave space flower that is pictured above may look a bit weird but NASA saw enough in its workings to put in an investment in order to […]
04/10/2012, Three companies, Kyocera Corporation, IHI Corporation and Mizuho Corporate Bank have unveiled their plans to install a 70 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic plant in Kagoshima City located in Southern Japan. Kyocera will supply the 290,000 multicrystalline photovoltaic modules and will also be responsible for construction and maintenance. IHI will lease the land for the project which will span across 314 acres and finally, Mizuho Bank will provide the investment that comes […]
04/10/2012, When you think camping, images of pitching a tent, building a fire and cooking a simple meal over it come to mind, but who’s to say we can’t go high-tech and green at the same time? Pictured above is the Leav, a concept camping solution by inventor Benjamin Charles whose goal was to create a camping solution for those who want to experience the joys of camping but would rather […]
04/05/2012, Scientists in Austria and Japan have recently revealed that they have been working on solar panels that is not only thinner than a thread of spider silk, but is also apparently flexible enough to be wrapped around a strand of human hair. These solar panels are reportedly ten times thinner than any other solar technology to be created and could very pave the way for electronic textiles or synthetic skin, […]
04/03/2012, Hundreds of farmers and rural residents rallied outside a clean energy forum in Toronto on Tuesday in a bid to call for an end to subsidies for wind power. According to a report from AFP, noise from the colossal turbines were not only making them sick, but also driving down property prices in rural areas situated nearby wind-farms. Besides calling for a stop to the subsidy, the group also asked […]
03/28/2012, The Swiss solar powered aircraft called Solar Impulse will attempt to fly from Switzerland to Morocco in coming weeks. Should the flight be successful, it will be the aircraft’s longest flight to date. After its inaugural flight to Paris and Brussels in 2011, Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg’s Solar Impulse will attempt to fly 1,500 miles without a drop of fuel and land in Morocco.
03/28/2012, Honda has unveiled a Solar Hydrogen Station in the grounds of their Saitama Prefectural Office in Tokyo, Japan. The Station is part of an Electric Vehicle Testing Program that Honda is carrying out with the Municipal council of Saitama and Iwatani for individuals who wish to own an electric vehicle. In a further effort, Honda has equipped one of its own electric vehicles, the FCX Clarity (in the picture) with […]
03/26/2012, MIT is trying to improve solar energy production in a new way: instead of using flat solar panels, it is using three-dimensional ones (including a cubic and a tower version), thus increasing the surface area by a considerable amount. The end result is a much higher power generation capability when compared to the flat solar panels. Of course, the price of the panel is higher because there is more photovoltaic […]
03/16/2012, While wireless devices give us a lot of freedom to use them whenever we want, one of the major gripes about them is that they require batteries to function – which means you’ll have to replace them after awhile or charge them with a cable. Well, SPEEDLINK’s upcoming wireless keyboard doesn’t have this problem, thanks to its integrated solar panel. All you have to do is ensure that the panel […]
03/05/2012, Love spending long hours skiing outdoors but hate your phones and MP3 players running out of battery? Well, you might not have such problems anymore thanks to the folks over at the Frauenhofer Institute. They’ve recently come up with some flexible solar panels that are durable enough to use in objects such as helmets. Armed with these solar panels, they’ve come up with Bluetooth-ready ski helmets that can solve everybody’s […]
03/01/2012, If you’re tired of plain, ugly-looking solar collectors ruining beautiful scenery, you’re not the only one. The folks over at Monarch Power have managed to come up with a pleasant looking solar collector inspired by the lotus flower. Aptly called the Monarch Lotus, it features 18 petals that form a 13-foot diameter flower that should be capable generating enough power (2kW) and hot water for the average family.
02/28/2012, With a lot of emphasis being placed on renewable energy sources these days, along with the concept of going green, perhaps A-Solar’s Power Dock for iOS devices might be worth checking out.
02/28/2012, Remember our earlier coverage of Solar Stik’s Wearable Advanced Solar Pak (WASP) portable solar generator? Well, here is a continuation of where we left off, with an image to boot this time around. Sporting a trio of progressively powerful versions – where they come in 30W, 60W, and 120W flavors, the WASP System (Wearable Advanced Solar Pak) can be specially modified to see action in any mission that requires man-portable […]
02/21/2012, Data centers in general aren’t environmentally friendly due to the amount of power needed to keep them running and to keep the servers cool. Well Apple has always advertised themselves to be a “green” company and has always boasted that their products are made with the environment in mind, and it looks like that green mindset will be extended to their data center in Maiden, North Carolina.
