Verizon Wireless 4G handset to be out next year
Posted on March 11, 2010 8:00 AM

The name Nokia was whispered to be the hardware supplier for Verizon Wireless' maiden 4G handset which is tipped to debut sometime in the middle of next year, where it runs on the LTE network which will roll out at the end of this year after trials at both Boston and Seattle. According to the Wall Street Journal, this first LTE handset will rely on dual chipsets to make them compatible with the current CDMA network.
Verizon Wireless nationwide BlackBerry outage
Posted on March 3, 2010 5:32 AM

Looks like Verizon Wireless is the latest mobile carrier to suffer from an outage - this time with their slew of BlackBerry devices, and it is a rather huge issue since this outage is of seemingly nationwide proportions, although there are still folks in various pockets of civilization Stateside that can still retrieve and send their email over BlackBerry. Verizon does not know when the situation will be corrected, so the only thing you can do now is keep your fingers crossed that all will be fixed shortly. In the meantime, the world still goes on even though you receive your email a fraction slower than push over your Gmail account.
Verizon Wireless VPhone does Skype
Posted on February 23, 2010 5:55 PM

Saygus' VPhone is tipped to be made available via Verizon Wireless, where it comes with a front facing camera which means 2-way video conferencing capability is confirmed. This news might also extend to something better, as both Verizon and Skype have also announced an official partnership which means the Saygus VPhone could very well support Skype video calls as well. Other specifications of the VPhone include a 3.5" display at 800 x 600 resolution, a 800MHz processor, an integrated FM radio, 512MB RAM, a 5-megapixel camera and the Android 1.6 operating system. Internal memory can be augmented by an SDHC memory card just in case you are going to tote your collection of MP3s on it. You will be able to find your way around with the A-GPS E911 module inside. One thing that still bugs us though - we don't know how much the VPhone will cost.
Verizon Wireless could discontinue BlackBerry Storm
Posted on February 23, 2010 6:11 AM

Word on the grapevine has it that Verizon Wireless will be dropping the iconic BlackBerry Storm smartphone from its lineup, mainly because the smartphone has an unexceptionally high level of returns - optimists prefer to say that Verizon is paving the way for a new device instead. Should Verizon go ahead with this decision, it could potentially hurt RIM significantly, since Verizon is currently the largest official retailer of BlackBerry Storm handsets. There is no official statement from either RIM or Verizon, so we'll have to wait for someone to burst open their dams.
BlackBerry 9650 delayed
Posted on February 21, 2010 7:54 PM

It seems that folks who are with Verizon and are looking forward to the BlackBerry 9650 will be disappointed, since an insider from RIM (Research In Motion) mentioned that Verizon will only roll out the 9650 when the official OS 5.0 arrives for the Tour 9630. As it stands, Sprint's bunch of 9650’s are experiencing Wi-Fi issues, and Sprint are hard at work rectifying that. Patience is always a good thing after all.

For those who are more careful before taking the plunge, you might want to read our Motorola DROID review first.
Verizon offers HP Mini 110 on the cheap
Posted on February 17, 2010 9:07 PM

Just in case you were scouting for a HP Mini 110 netbook and felt that it was still too expensive for your needs, Verizon's got your back - it will be offering the netbook for a mere $30 with a catch - you will need to stick with them for two years at $60 per month, resulting in a total cost of $1,470 over two years. Of course, that also takes into account of being able to surf anytime, anywhere. Anyone who wants to give this deal a go, or would you prefer to purchase a netbook as a standalone device, shopping for a different data service provider instead?
Motorola Devour to arrive on Verizon
Posted on February 3, 2010 8:30 AM

Verizon Wireless will be offering the Motorola Devour Android-powered handset which ought to keep socialites happy thanks to its Happenings Widget that can push social networking updates directly onto the 3.1" capacitive touchscreen display, while your universal inbox will keep you abreast with the latest happenings thanks to having a merged view of your SMSes, emails and social network messages. Apart from that, all data within as well as settings information will be backed up in the event of a loss or theft. This silver slider packs a spacious keyboard for easy and comfortable typing, and is equipped with Google Maps Navigation for free turn-by-turn directions as you get around town. Guess it will run on Android 1.6 (bummer) instead of 2.1, but at least it is better than having 1.5 on board, right?
Verizon to offer slotRadio+ microSD memory cards on BlackBerry
Posted on January 28, 2010 8:47 AM

Verizon just announced that they will be offering slotRadio+ microSD memory cards which already come preloaded with music on most of their BlackBerry smartphone range. These music-laden microSD memory cards are not new, having been introduced by SanDisk last year, but to hold 1,000 songs from various artists who have made their way up in the Billboard charts could prove to be a deal clincher for most people, not to mention the ability to store another 4B of data on said card. Before getting the slotRadio+ card to work, you will need to download and install an application on your BlackBery, which in turn enables one to hook up to Verizon's V CAST Music service if you want to purchase the particular song or a related ringtone on the slotRadio+ card. Each of these cards will retail for $50 apiece as they ship tomorrow, playing nice with Curve, Pearl, Pearl Flip, Storm, Storm2 and Tour models.
Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus now on Verizon website
Posted on January 25, 2010 2:55 AM

Verizon's website has been updated to show off the modestly updated Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus which we saw at CES 2010, and they will retail for $149.99 and $99.99, respectively, after tying yourself down to a 2-year contract of course. Interestingly enough, the Pixi Plus has a special offer where you can buy one and get the other for free. These webOS devices won't make a big splash but rather a small ripple, and chances are only those who have been hankering after one will get it, apart from a few fence sitters. Don't expect diehard fans of respective phone brands to be swayed as these refreshed devices don't have that much to offer.
Verizon removes 10 phones from ETF list
Posted on January 22, 2010 7:00 AM

Verizon was reported to remove up to 10 handsets from its Early Termination Fees (ETF) list, which might be good news for some of you, although those handsets that no longer see action aren't exactly the most exciting ones in the world either. In no particular order of mention, the removed phones include the Motorola Krave, Samsung Rogue and five LG devices, which would mean BlackBerrys and Android-powered devices are still under the nefarious $350 ETF category.
Verizon to offer Motorola Devour
Posted on December 18, 2009 6:38 AM

Verizon Wireless has been touted to bring the Motorola Devour to the masses, and in case the name sounds unfamiliar, perhaps the Motorola Calgary might ring a bell instead? This is touted to be a low-end alternative to the Droid, where it will come with a more basic 3-megapixel camera and a smaller display. Regardless, it should have enough muscle to run the Android 2.1 operating system when released, and holds the distinction of being one of Motorola's first handsets that will utilize its customized MOTOBLUR interface with a version of Android newer than 1.5. BlackBerry Essex to hit Verizon
Posted on December 17, 2009 5:30 PM

We saw a Sprint-badged BlackBerry Essex earlier this morning, and now we have news of the Essex heading for Verizon Wireless as well as seen in this leaked photo. This Tour sequel will come with an optical trackpad alongside Wi-Fi connectivity to improve upon its predecessor, while retaining the original Tour features such as the 3.2-megapixel camera with flash, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and BlackBerry App World support among others. Should you feel the need to increase its storage capacity, why not throw in a microSDHC memory card?
HTC Passion not heading for Verizon this Christmas
Posted on December 14, 2009 6:47 PM

Word has it that the HTC Passion is not going to be available via Verizon Wireless in time for Christmas, despite an earlier rumor floating around concerning a teaser site that promoted the HTC Passion via Verizon Wireless for this Yuletide season. Apparently, some digital sleuthing revealed that the teaser site is a fake, but good thing the handset isn't since the Passion design seems to have been chosen as the Nexus One which passed the FCC ealier today, albeit for T-Mobile 3G bands.
FCC clears Palm Pixi with Verizon frequencies
Posted on December 13, 2009 6:51 PM

Could Verizon finally be another carrier that offers the Palm Pixi? We believe so, as the FCC has just cleared this CDMA-based Palm Pixi which will come with 802.11b/g Wi-Fi. To date, Verizon has already confirmed that they will be bringing a webOS-powered Palm device sometime early next year, which is most probably the Palm Pixi here. For those who are eager to jump on the webOS bandwagon, would you hold your horses and get the Verizon model next year or forget about Wi-Fi connectivity and settle with one from Sprint?
Verizon to offer Samsung Omnia II
Posted on November 20, 2009 6:46 AM

The Samsung Omnia II will be heading towards Verizon Wireless, although it does make us wonder why the carrier would release a Windows Mobile 6.5 device to go up against the Motorola Droid from their own stable. Seems that it will retail for $200 a pop for a 2-year contract, although at that price point you will need to send in a $100 mail-in rebate. The Omnia II is set for a December 2 release.
Verizon Wireless to offer Droid tethering
Posted on November 4, 2009 6:45 AM

Verizon Wireless aims to make the Motorola Droid even better by offering their "Broadband Access Connect" plan that will enable you to tether your handset as a modem, where this function will be made available for the Droid early next year. Expect to fork out another $15 monthly fee for Broadband Access Connect being added to your Droid service plan.
Motorola DROID from Verizon Wireless
Posted on October 28, 2009 9:27 AM

Verizon Wireless has just made it known to all and sundry that it will be offering the Motorola DROID from November 6th onwards, where you will have to shell out $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate, making it the first of potentially many Android-poweerd smartphones from Verizon. The DROID has a very strong possibility of being a blockbuster hit, where it comes with a lip-smacking 3.7" display at 854 x 480 resolution, a 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash to capture great looking night shots alongside a beta version of Google Maps Navigation to help you find your way around. Will the iPhone shake and quiver at the knees now? [Press Release]
Verizon Wireless offers two more HP netbooks
Posted on October 22, 2009 5:02 PM

Verizon Wireless has announced that they will be bringing the HP Mini 311-1037NR and the HP Mini 110-1046NR netbooks to their network, where the former will retail for $249.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement on a Mobile Broadband plan. As for the HP Mini 110-1046NR, this model will only be out sometime in the middle of November for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement on a Mobile Broadband plan. Any takers for super sweet machines that offer anytime, anywhere Internet surfing? [Press Release]
Verizon HTC Desire spotted
Posted on October 22, 2009 4:17 PM

Android devices are coming in thick and fast, and Verizon Wireless looks set to be the latest beneficiary as a stealthy tech ninja managed to snag an image of a Verizon-branded HTC Desire. Word from said ninja included the device running at super speed, sporting the Sense user interface as well as being rather similar in size compared to the HTC Hero from Sprint.
