Nokia Introduces the N97 with a Touchscreen and a Full Keyboard

Nokia warned us that something was coming today and here it is: the N97 is Nokia’s latest smartphone that has both a 3.5″ touchscreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard. You will recognize the Nokia touch in the design, but it is definitely more edgy than previous models . It is of course a 3.5G (HSDPA) phone that also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. We can’t wait to see how web browsing feels on this device. Notice how the homepage can be customized with widgets. We went through the marketing stuff and here’s what’s important:

Highlights

  • 32GB of internal storage, expandable to 48GB by adding a 16GB microSDHC card
  • Carl Zeiss Lens, 5MP Camera
  • 640 x 360 3.5″ touchscreen
  • 30fps H.264 video decode
  • 30fps 640×480 MPEG-4 video recording

GPS

It is AGPS-capable and the mapping and routing software should be included – but that depends on the carrier. Routing and guides could be a paid service.

Music

The N97 has a standard 3.5mm jack (woohoo!) and is obviously compatible with the Nokia Music Store. It supports MP3, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+ and WMA formats

Battery Life

  • 5.3 Hours Talk time
  • 400 Hours Idle
  • 4.5 Hours of video (with GSM OFF)
  • 37 Hours of music (with GSM OFF)

Available in mid-2009.
