After the protective casings for the iPod nano were leaked a little while ago, it was widely expected that the updated iPod nano would drop the click wheel and utilize a touchscreen display. With that in mind, Apple didn’t disappoint, as the new iPod nano has been officially unveiled, and it sports a multi-touch interface instead of the click wheel. Thanks to lack of the click wheel, the new iPod nano is touted as being 46 percent smaller, is 42 percent lighter, and also offers a clip at the back of the media player, similar to the iPod shuffle. Other features include volume buttons, VoiceOver, FM radio, Nike+, Pedometer, support for 29 languages, and 24-hour audio playback. Surprisingly, Apple didn’t demonstrate if there was Universal Search on the iPod nano, though we hope that it’s an included feature, despite the lack of the tiny magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the display, as it’s incredibly useful. It’s a major redesign in the iPod nano’s design, and we’re looking forward to seeing the response to it. The new iPod nano is up for pre-order today, and will set you back $149 for the 8GB version, and $179 for the 16GB version. All the new iPods (touch, nano, and shuffle) will be available next week.
