Amazon the Center of Controversy with Kindle Store Title 'The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure'

Amazon has found itself in the middle of controversy by selling a Kindle digital e-book that, as its title promotes, is a guide for pedophiles. The digital ‘Pedophile’s Guide for to Love and Pleasure’ has prompted 762 1-star reviews, placing the book at number 158,221 on the Amazon’s best-selling list. Others are also considering the boycott of Amazon while a few have written to the retailer and received a note that banning the book will be a form of censorship and Amazon advises users to essentially vote with their dollars in a capitalist society by not purchasing the book:

“Let me assure you that Amazon.com does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts; we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions. Amazon.com believes it is censorship not to sell certain titles because we believe their message is objectionable.” (Amazon)

At the time of this writing, there are 778 reviews and the average review is 1 star out of five possible; 762 users have given the book 1 star.

The book, dubbed “A Child-Lover’s Code of Conduct,” has the following description:

This is my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certian rules for these adults to follow. I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter sentences should they ever be caught.

The book is only available in digital edition for the Kindle. Given its negative reaction on Amazon’s store, it’s unclear if other bookstores will want to sell the item, such as Barnes & Noble’s nook store, which has made it possible and easy for authors to self-publish their titles in digital format.
