If you’re on the look out for a device that could potentially keep your kids entertained for hours then perhaps this protype mirror by designer Romy Van Den Broek is something you may be very interested in.
The prototype is called “Through the looking glass” which is rather apt and is meant to mimic the Alice In Wonderland story, except with this device you could potentially load up any fairytale story into it and let your kids have fun reading about the story and being able to interact with it as well. However for the prototype it is only loaded up with the Hansel and Gretel fairytale.
How this works is that by using a highly reflective LCD touchscreen display, it is meant to mimic a mirror but at the same time plays out a fairytale story which gets your kids to interact with the device, for instance if a part of story requires the picking up of stones, through the motion capture software your kids could participate in the picking up of the stones before proceeding to the next part of the story.
As we mentioned earlier this is currently only a prototype and there is no mention if there are plans to make this a reality. To quote Romy Van Den Broek’s interpretation of the device:
“Fairytales are stories rich with imagination and folklore. Telling, or reading fairytales is an experience of whimsy and imagination. They stimulate your fantasy and help you escape from reality as they teach you life lessons through morals and deeper meanings. I wanted to design something that let’s you actively experience a fairytale. I wanted to encompass interaction and participation in order to enrich the experience of a fairytale.”
