Google Rumored To Drop Nexus Line In Favor Of Play Edition Devices

nexus-5-review--010The Google Nexus lineup is basically Google’s answer for customers who want the stock Android experience with decent hardware that does not come at a steep price. This is because Google can afford to offer huge subsidies on their devices, which in turn probably does not sit too well with Android OEMs who might find it harder to compete. Well it looks like in what appears to be a rather shocking rumor is that Google could be dropping the Nexus lineup come 2015. Instead Google will replace the Nexus lineup with Play Edition devices instead, although the name is also expected to be rebranded by then.

This is according to notorious leaker, Eldar Murtazin, who made those claims on his Twitter account where he wrote, “Nexus line by Google is over in 2015 ;) Yes – this line will be replaced by Play Edition (current name, it will be rebranded)” As it stands there are several different Play Edition handsets being offered by Google at the moment, such as the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4. These devices are basically the same as their regular counterparts but will run on stock Android instead. We’re not sure what is Google’s motivation behind this move, if true, but hopefully there will still be affordable devices available. Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys make of this rumor? Possible?
