We have been hearing the rumors that HTC could be launching a smaller version of the HTC One M8. Well if you were looking forward to the device, wait no more because HTC has officially announced the HTC One mini 2 on their blog. The company is calling the HTC One mini 2 the most “grippable” Android ever, which is odd since it does seem to suggest that the HTC One M8 might be too big for comfortable use.
That being said, for those who would actually prefer a smaller screen, then perhaps the HTC One mini 2 could be worth checking out. The handset will feature a 4.5-inch HD display and according to HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou, “Its size and tapered edges fit perfectly in a hand, pocket or purse, making it look great and feel even better to use. It’s the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of the HTC One (M8) yet want something more compact.”
The handset will also come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset under the hood clocked at 1.2GHz (quad-core). It will be accompanied by 1GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage expandable via microSD, and will feature a more conventional 13MP sensor, which is an odd move since HTC has been promoting the UltraPixel camera technology. The HTC One mini 2 will also come with a 5MP front-facing camera.
The good news is that it looks like HTC has retained the BoomSound stereo speakers, so for those who appreciated the audio quality on the HTC One M8, then the One mini 2 should not disappoint. The handset will also offer LTE connectivity and a 2,100mAh battery which HTC claims will offer 16 hours of 3G talk time. Pricing remains unknown, but HTC will be releasing the device in EMEA and North America this June.
