With all of the rumors surrounding Google’s Android Silver program there was a lot of speculation about the future of the Nexus lineup. Many Android enthusiasts are now looking forward to the successors that will be released next year and certainly many would be curious about the Nexus 6 as well. While LG made the Nexus 5, rumor has it that Motorola will be handling its successor. A device codenamed Motorola “Shamu” has appeared on GFXBench and its believed to be the Nexus 6.

The listing on GFXBench didn’t include the device’s specifications so its unclear right now what the next Nexus smartphone might have under the hood. That doesn’t mean there will be no rumors about its specifications.

TechTastic speculates based on this filing that the Nexus 6 is going to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and that it will have a 5.9-inch full HD display, not a Quad HD panel. Obviously it is too soon to be sure right now and even if these preliminary specifications are correct there’s still a lot of time for changes to be made.

If Google keeps up with its current release cycles then we should expect the Nexus 6 in the first half of 2015, not before. No comment from Motorola or Google on this purported Nexus device. We shouldn’t get our hopes up, it is highly unlikely that both of them will have anything to say about the Shamu at this point in time.
