There is a new sheriff in town, Bradley Horowitz, a seasoned Google vice president of product has just announced via Google+ (of course), that he will take on the new lead position for Google Photos and Streams; two products the outcome of the Google+ splitting up.
“Just wanted to confirm that the rumors are true — I’m excited to be running Google’s Photos and Streams products!” Horowitz said in a post Sunday. “It’s important to me that these changes are properly understood to be positive improvements to both our products and how they reach users.”
Since then there are more rumors surfaced that Google’s Hangouts may also be split off from Google+. In an interview given to Forbes last week, Sundar Pichai,Google’s senior vice president of products has suggested that Google was planning to split Google+ into few pieces. ‘I think increasingly you’ll see us focus on communications, photos and the Google+ Stream as three important areas, rather than being thought of as one area,” Pichai said.
In December last year, Horowitz had explained the role that Hangout ought to play. “It’s texting, it’s telephony, it’s one-to-one, it’s many-to-many, it’s consumer, it’s enterprise,” and comparing to their rivals, Snapchat and What’sApp, he says ‘We’re trying to do something broader that helps people communicate wherever they are using whatever products they prefer,”
It’s too early to know by making Google Photo and Stream as two standalone could help Google+’s relevancy.
