periscopeLast week Twitter launched the Periscope app which was the company’s answer to Meerkat. However the app was only available on iOS devices which had many wondering if Twitter would be releasing it for Android, or if it might be an iOS exclusive. It turns out that users can rest assured as it will be arriving for Android, soon.

This is according to a post the development team answered on their blog in which they responded to the question of an Android version by saying, “Soon! We’re working on it.” Unfortunately no specific dates have been given but hopefully it will be sooner rather than later, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for it.

For those who are hearing about Periscope/Meerkat for the first time, basically it allows users to broadcast live video streams using their mobile devices. Users of the platform will be able to tune into these live streams as they happen, so if you’re a reporter covering a trade show, you will be able to live stream your coverage as you walk around.

Periscope will also allow users to send messages and chat with one another while watching the live stream, kind of like what goes on during Twitch streams. As it stands, Periscope’s competitor Meerkat is also an iOS-only app and it will be interesting to see who manages to launch on Android first. In the meantime those interested in checking out the app can head on over to the iTunes App Store for the download.
