Considering that smartphones and smartwatches are different in size and functionality, it’s safe to say that an app running on a smartphone might not necessarily work out when ported onto a smartwatch, and vice versa. Now if you had your eye on the Apple Watch and you’re wondering if there will be many apps available for the device at the start, it looks like you’re in luck.
According to a memo (obtained by 9to5Mac) Apple’s CEO Tim Cook had sent out to the company’s employees, it seems that there have been over a 1,000 apps submitted for the Apple Watch. Of course it remains to be seen if all these apps will be approved for the device, but at the very least it does show signs that developers are interested in developing apps for the wearable.
The memo reads, “More than one thousand apps were submitted in just four days last week when the App Store started accepting them, and the rate of submissions has only been climbing since then.” To thank Apple employees for their hard work in making the Apple Watch a reality, Cook also stated that employees will be given a discount on the device.
Specifically a 50% discount on the Apple Watch or Apple Watch Sport. As for those looking to get the Apple Watch Edition, they will be given a $550 discount instead which is admittedly not much considering the overall price of the watch to begin with, but hey it’s better than nothing, right? The Apple Watch has been pegged for a release on the 24th of April and will be available for pre-order starting 10th April.
