whatsapp fbWe know that Facebook owns WhatsApp but it is unclear as to what the company has planned for the messaging service. So far both Facebook and WhatsApp are existing as separate entities without much integration with one another, but it looks like all of that could soon change according to the folks at GeekTime.

Over the weekend, the website learnt that Facebook was testing some kind of WhatsApp integration in its Facebook app on Android. As you can see in the screenshots above, it seems that there is a WhatsApp icon that has been included into Facebook posts, and that clicking on the icon would allow users to share that particular post with their WhatsApp contacts.

Now this isn’t a particularly groundbreaking feature as one can already share Facebook posts with friends, it’s just that with the addition of the WhatsApp button, it would save users from a few extra steps and share it instantly. The WhatsApp icon does seem a tad out of place in terms of design compared to the other buttons, but it is possible that is just in its early stages and that we might expect a new icon later.

It isn’t clear if and when Facebook will roll out this since the social network could always decide that maybe this isn’t a feature they want to make public, but either it does show signs of WhatsApp and Facebook starting to become “one” with each other. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info, but in the meantime what do you guys make of this potential sharing feature?
