nvidia-shield-pro-500-gb

You might want to take note if you own a Shield Pro Android TV from NVIDIA, the company is recalling some units of this device due to hard disk drive failures. This is the latest NVIDIA recall following the Shield Tablet recall for faulty batteries which posed a potential fire risk. The hard drive issues won’t make the device catch fire so at least owners don’t have to worry about that, and it merits mentioning here that the issue isn’t exactly widespread.

It’s limited to a small number of Shield Android TV units, particularly the ones that have the 500GB hard drive, and only a small portion of this model is affected by the hard drive failures. As previously mentioned, at least they’re not going to catch fire.

A post from an NVIDIA Customer Care representative on the official NVIDIA forum reveals that these units have hard drives that could likely fail which would make the device unusable. If users are seeing the Fastboot menu when installing a system update or if they’re seeing random text or errors on the screen this means that their unit has the hard drive issue.

NVIDIA isn’t going to issue a major recall for this product by posting a range of model or serial numbers, instead the company has defined the symptoms and if any users experiences them they can visit this website to get a replacement.
