deloreanI know that the US has churned out its fair share of iconic cars in the past, but surely one of the models that has captured the hearts and minds of many, including those outside of the US, would be the DMC DeLorean which was made famous in the Back to the Future series. While the car has long been out of production, it looks like it might make a comeback courtesy of a spanking new law, and this ride is touted to boast anywhere between 300 to 400 horses underneath the hood.

The “Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act” (H.R. 2675) legalizes the company that purchased all leftover DeLorean parts to piece them together in order to churn out a spanking new DMC-12s, and this could very well happen some time early next year. In other words, this new law enables low-volume manufacturers who churn out replicas of cars that are at least a quarter of a century old, to be treated differently from mass volume manufacturers like Toyota.

Of course, these smaller companies will still need to register with NHTSA and EPA, in addition to doing the necessary paperwork such as filing annual production reports, with said replica vehicles being subject to equipment standards, recalls and remedies as well, not to mention meeting existing Clean Air Act standards for the model year in which they are produced. The new DMC-12s are tipped to retail for approximately $100,000 though.
