USM64CA1_3We are kind of at that awkward stage right now where USB Type-C is expected to become the future of connectors. In fact from what we’ve seen, it can be used as more than a mere connector and can actually be used to power laptops, like Apple’s 12-inch Retina MacBook. However until Type-C becomes more ubiquitous, devices with multiple connectors are to be expected.

In fact Sony themselves have launched a new USB Flash Drive that according to the company, will feature dual connectors in the form of USB Type-C and USB Type-A, with the latter being the current design we are used to seeing in desktop and laptops. It will also come in a variety of different sizes ranging from 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.

According to Sony, “The USB 3.1 Gen1 CA1-series utilises dual connectors, including the new standard Type-C USB, and Type-A, to broaden the usage abilities of the device. The sleek connector is tailored to fit multiple devices such as your smartphone, yet robust enough to also fit your tablet and laptop. It is compatible with Windows, Macintosh, Android and Chromebook devices equipped with Type-C and Type-A ports, and makes for quick sharing and easy back up.”

Unfortunately pricing of the flash drive was not mentioned, but it is expected to launch next month so perhaps we will learn more then.
