You might not be alone in noticing that your Facebook feed is now a hangout location for memes, viral videos and brand updates that’s because this is something that’s happening at a much larger scale. Yes, Facebook wants all of the content, but it appears that its users are becoming wary of sharing their personal updates on the social network.

The Information reports that people are now sharing fewer personal updates on the world’s largest social network. The report mentions that overall sharing on Facebook has declined by 5.5 percent from mid-2014 to mid-2015. This means that Facebook has fewer posts to display in your News Feed, that people are posting as much about themselves and their life as they previously used to.

It’s mentioned in the report that personal sharing has declined by 21 percent during the aforementioned time period and that the decline continues to have momentum in 2016 even if it’s currently at 15 percent year over year currently.

Facebook has reportedly dedicated a team inside the company to come up with ways to make users share more about their personal life, the social network is also said to have made personal updates more prominent in the News Feed and has made it easier for users to share something of their own. The changes appear to have slowed down the rate of decline but they don’t seem to have fixed the issue completely.

Facebook didn’t attach much importance to the issue, in a statement provided to The Information, it said: “People continue to share a ton on Facebook; the overall level of sharing has remained not only strong, but similar to levels in prior years.”
