nintendo_shigeru_MiyamotoLast month we reported that Nintendo confirmed that they were looking into virtual reality. This does not mean that they will launch anything related to VR, but considering all the hype surrounding the technology, it would be a little silly for Nintendo to pass up on the opportunity before doing some research of their own.

However it seems that there are some issues that they are hoping to address before actually releasing anything, and one of those concerns is the safety for children. According to Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, he revealed during the company’s shareholder meeting that safety was one of their concerns for VR, and that if they were to do anything they’d want to ensure it was kid-friendly.

According to Miyamoto, “We are looking into the possibilities of providing an experience that gives value when played for a short time, and how to eliminate the concerns of long-duration use. We are also looking into how to make sure that a parent doesn’t need to worry when their child puts on a VR device in their living room.”

We’re not sure how one can kid-proof VR. Maybe in terms of content preventing kids from playing horror games could be one of them, or maybe blocking access to adult-related material, and so on, but either way it does sound like Nintendo has a lot of research ahead of them so maybe we shouldn’t hold our breath.
