Apple’s AirPod Headphones Will Work With Non-Apple Devices

apple-AirPods-pairingWhen Apple announced the AirPods, basically it sounded like they were a wireless pair of headphones designed for iOS devices. This combined with the W1 chip that made pairing with the iPhone more or less instant seemed to suggest that, plus the press release of the AirPods even says, “AirPods require Apple devices running iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra.”

The good news is that if you like what you see but don’t own an Apple product, you’ll be pleased to learn that the AirPods will work with non-Apple products as well. This is according to The Verge who were told by Apple that it will play nicely with non-Apple products since it is at its core a Bluetooth headset.

However the only downside is that according to Apple, using the AirPods with a non-Apple device will see the headset “just lose the magic (ease of setup, seamless transitioning from device-to-device, Siri, etc.) when not used with an Apple device.” Basically they’ll transform into a regular pair of wireless headphones.

Whether or not you can justify paying $160 for a pair of wireless headphones is up to you since there are definitely cheaper and better options out there, but if you do decide that you want the AirPods, you can go ahead and use them without any issue.
