nintendo_switch_zeldaWe’re sure many gamers are wondering how much the upcoming Nintendo Switch will cost. With the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S priced around the $400 mark, safe to say that Nintendo should either price it around the same or lower if they’re hoping to compete. Pricing it higher might not make sense given that customers are wary following the Wii U’s failure.

However we guess we’ll have to wait until next year to find out, but in the meantime Nintendo’s president Tatsumi Kimishima seemed to tease how much the console would cost during the company’s recent earnings briefing (via GameSpot). Kimishima was quoted as saying, “Regarding the price, as we have been saying, we are, in principle, not planning to sell it at a loss.”

He adds, “We would like a wide variety of consumers to enjoy Nintendo products, and we would also like to think in terms of consumers’ expectations for our products.” In terms of expectations, the Wii was originally sold at $250 while the Wii U made its debut at $300. These are the prices that customers have come to expect from Nintendo, so could $250-300 be the price range we expect for the Switch?

Nintendo did previously state that they want to make the Switch accessible to all, not just core gamers, such as families with children, so hopefully competitive pricing is one way Nintendo plans to achieve that. In the meantime the console has been rumored for a release in the week of the 17th of March.
