apple-digital-crownA feature of the Apple Watch is the digital crown on the side of the device. Traditional watches have a similar crown that allows them to adjust the date and time, but in the Apple Watch’s case, the digital crown allows users to navigate the watch, act as a home button, a selection button, and more.

This is a feature unique to the Apple Watch, although a recently discovered patent by Patently Apple (via 9to5Mac) has revealed that Apple has toyed with the idea of bringing the digital crown to its iOS devices, such as the iPhone and iPad. It is an interesting idea we’ll have to admit and it’s actually not the first time that Apple has come up with such an idea.

Interestingly enough this patent has surfaced at a time where according to the rumors, Apple could be looking to ditch the physical home button on the iPhone once and for all. The home button has been pretty much a staple feature in every iPhone launched, despite the fact that it is also one of the features that breaks down the most.

With the removal of the home button, we’re pretty sure that Apple is looking to virtual solutions, not an alternate physical one. In any case since it’s a patent there’s no telling if Apple will ever implement it, but what do you guys think of the idea? Yay or nay?
