However it seems that maybe the service wasn’t as well-received as Google had liked because they have recently announced (via Android Police) that they will be shutting the service down on the 17th of April, and that on the 3rd of March the service will become read-only meaning that you can post or share anything new, but can only read existing topics.
After this come 17th of April, Google will be shutting the service down and all content uploaded onto Spaces will be deleted. If there are things that you want to keep then you’ll have to make sure to download them before the 17th of April otherwise they’ll be gone for good. According to Google, “Our goal with Spaces was to create a better small-group sharing experience, and we’ll use what we’ve learned to improve other Google products and services. Thanks again for your support.”
It is unclear why the service is being shuttered, but like we said maybe it did not prove to be as popular as Google had liked, and that the resources spent maintaining it could go elsewhere, but in the meantime will any of you guys miss it?
