Right now the latest iPhone is the iPhone 7 (and its Plus variant), which means that the iPhone 6 is basically 3 generations ago. However interestingly enough it seems that over in Taiwan, Apple has quietly launched a new 32GB iPhone 6 model that will be available via local carrier Taiwan Mobile.

It is odd that despite the iPhone 7 being the latest model that Apple is still churning out iPhone 6 units, let alone one in a new configuration. For those unfamiliar, the iPhone 6 was launched in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models, so it is interesting that Apple is introducing a 32GB model for the iPhone 6 at this point in time.

However this move isn’t completely unprecedented. Apple has in the past kept older iPhone models around to act as cheaper alternatives to the newer models. For example for a while Apple continued to sell older iPad models despite there being much newer models available, so presumably this 32GB iPhone 6 is aimed at customers who’d rather not fork out that much money for a new iPhone 7.

That being said it should be noted that this appears to be only available in Taiwan and also China where it was launched last month. We’re not sure if it will ever find its way stateside so maybe don’t hold your breath.
