Apple has shaken up its iPod lineup today. Hammering in the final nail in the 16GB tier’s coffin, Apple today announced that it’s discontinuing the 16GB iPod touch. It has even decided that there’s no need to offer the 64GB storage option anymore. Apple is now offering 32GB as the entry-level capacity for the iPod touch.

The iPod touch hasn’t received a major refresh since two years ago when it was updated with the A8 processor, Apple’s flagship processor at that point in time. It’s unclear if Apple is planning to refresh the iPod touch in the near future.

Perhaps the biggest iPod-related announcement that Apple has made today pertains to two of its legacy models. Apple has discontinued the iPod shuffle and iPod nano. It will no longer sell them directly or restock them at retailers when they eventually run out of stock.

iPod touch customers only have two options to choose from now. The entry-level model now offers 32GB storage instead of 16GB for the same price, it still costs $199.

Apple is also selling a 128GB model of the iPod touch for $299. These are the only two options available to iPod touch customers as the company has decided to discontinue the 64GB model as well.
