For Android users, having to wait for your OEM to push out an Android update can be a rather painful process since there is usually no fixed schedule. For example just because one company releases their update next week doesn’t mean that you will get your update the next week either as it largely depends on the manufacturer’s timetable of release.

However the good news is that for those who have bought HMD Global’s Nokia handsets, the company has recently confirmed that several Nokia smartphones will be receiving the update to Android 8.0 Oreo by the end of the year. This is according to HMD Global’s GM for Australia and New Zealand who confirmed that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 would receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update in the next few months.

No specific dates were mentioned but given that we’re already in October, we guess owners of either handset won’t have to wait too long for it. As it stands, the Oreo update is already being tested on the Nokia 8 so we imagine that its release shouldn’t be too far off either. HMD seems to be doing a good job on the updates so far.

The company has also recently confirmed that all of its current handsets will receive the Android P update which should be released next year. Whether or not they’ll keep to their word remains to be seen as we have seen handset makers go back on their promises before.
