The original Robocop movie is much loved and widely believed to be one of the best sci-fi movies made back in the 1980s. However, the sequels and remakes that have been made since have left fans disappointed. Fans of the original can now look forward to another addition to this franchise. It has been confirmed that a new Robocop movie is in development and that the upcoming title is going to be a sequel to the original.

The Robocop sequels released in 1990 and 1993 didn’t receive the kind of praise that the original had. The franchise was then rebooted over a decade later in 2004 but it wasn’t enough to relaunch the franchise.

Over a decade after the last reboot, it’s now time for another Robocop movie, and it’s not going to be a sequel to the 2004 reboot or even a continuation of the sequels of the original.

The original’s writer Ed Neumeier is involved with the new movie and he has revealed that the plan is to make a fresh sequel to the 1987 classic, this means that every other Robocop movie that came out in the years since will basically be ignored.

“I would say this would be kind of going back to the old Robocop we all love, starting there and going forward. So it’s a continuation really of the first movie in my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old-school thing,” he said.

It remains to be seen when MGM is going to greenlight the movie. There’s no word as yet on what the casting choices will be for the new Robocop movie.
