We have heard in the past rumors that Facebook could be looking to develop their own dating app/feature. Given how many users there are on its network, it would be easy to leverage those accounts right off the bat instead of having to convince users to sign up for a new account and service.
In fact earlier this year, Facebook confirmed that they are working on such a feature which in a recent tweet by Jane Manchun Wong, it appears that the feature is now being tested out. Unfortunately for Wong, it seems to be tested internally because while she could access the signup screen, she could not go further as it appears that Facebook isn’t activating non-employee Dating profiles for now.
Facebook has since confirmed that they are testing out the feature but declined to go into further details. This means that things like features, launch date, and more is still anyone’s guess. However presumably for the most part it shouldn’t differ too much from other dating apps such as Tinder, where users can browse profiles and match up with others who have liked them back.
For those who are curious, it seems that you’ll have to wait until Facebook launches the feature, but if online dating is your thing, there are plenty of alternatives out there that could be worth taking a look at for now.
