According to the rumors of the upcoming Google Pixel 3, it will feature dual front-facing cameras, which thanks to leaks we have seen how it will look like. It is unclear what Google plans to use the dual cameras for, but according to a report from 9to5Google, it seems that their sources have revealed some of Google’s plans.

If their sources are accurate, then it seems that the point of the dual selfie cameras is to allow users to snap “Super Selfies” which apparently is what the feature is being referred to. Their sources have also all separately confirmed that at least one of the lenses on the front-facing camera will be of the wide-angle variety.

This is not the first time that we’re seeing smartphones with dual front-facing cameras, although to use it purely just to take selfies does seem a bit of a “waste” of technology. However based on a recent APK teardown, there is mention of a possible feature called “Face Match” which seems to hint at some kind of facial recognition system that could be used to unlock the phone.

Ever since Apple introduced Face ID to its smartphones, we have started to see various companies attempt their hand at facial recognition tech. We can’t be sure if “Face Match” is the tech that we’re thinking about, but it could be a good reason why Google has opted for dual front-facing shooters.
